Introduction: The Not-Pizza Pie!

Simply put, I adore food that is for lack of a better word....a trap!
This pie is a lie I tell ya!
It may look and act like a pizza, but I assure you it's really a pie.
This lovely instructable will show you a fun way to dress pies up as a pizza.
Happy Pi Day! Hope you enjoy~

Step 1: What You Need!

For the Pie:
1 Pound of Fresh, Cleaned Strawberries
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water
3 Tablespoons Cornstarch
1-2 Tablespoons Corn Syrup
1 9-inch Pie Crust, Baked

For the Pizza Decorations:
1 Strawberry Fruit Roll Up or Fruit by the Foot
1 Small Box of Raisinets (Dark or Milk Chocolate both work)
1 Package of White Chocolate or Vanilla Melts

Tools:
Small Sauce Pan
Large Spoon
Small to Medium Frosting Tip
Knife and Cutting Board
Grater
Plate

Note: Any pie recipe that contains red innards will work for this project, so feel free to use whatever pie flavor that is to your liking! But hey, I suppose you can use any pie in general and just use a red jam to spread over the top of it as the "pizza sauce."

Step 2: Slice and Dice!

So the first thing you want to do is wash and prepare your strawberries.
You are going to thinly slice half of them. Then dice the other half.
Both small and large dices work, it really depends on the size of strawberry chunks you'd prefer when you bite into your piece of yummy pie. Mashed strawberries works great as well.

Step 3: Strawberry Lining.

Next, you take the thinly sliced strawberries and use them to line the bottom of your pre-baked pie crust.

Step 4: Strawberry Filling.

Now, in a small sauce pan, combine your diced or mashed strawberries with your sugar and corn syrup.
Set on medium to medium-high heat and bring to a simmer.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the corn starch and water until combined.
Add the corn starch to the strawberry mixture and keep on simmer for about 10 minutes or until you mixture begins to thicken.

Step 5: Fill the Pie and Cool!

Next, take the sauce pan off the heat and pour the contents evenly into your pie crust.
Refrigerate for 1-2 hours, or if you are impatient like me you can stick it in the freezer and cut the cool time in half!

Step 6: Prepping Decorations!

While you wait for your pie to cool, you can begin to prep the pizza decorations.
First, grab your grater, your melts, and a plate, time to grate you some mozzarella cheese...Err...I mean vanilla or white chocolate....
You'll want to use the largest grate you have for a better look.
Careful not to grate your fingers!

Step 7: Prepping Decorations, Part 2!

Now grab your frosting tip and fruit roll up, time to make some mini pepperonis!
Use the bottom large, plain edge of the frosting tip to cut out strawberry fruit roll up pepperonis as shown in my picture.
Peel them off and set aside on a plate.
This part is much easier than grating melts!

Step 8: Decorate!

Now for the fun part, your pie is cooled and your pizza trimmings are prepped.
Time to get down to business!
First, sprinkle on your vanilla or white chocolate shavings.
Next, arrange your fruit roll up pepperonis. You can have all kinds of fun making patterns. If you are feeling extra nerdy try making a Pi symbol on your pizza pie...pie!
Last of all, throw on some "sausage" bits or otherwise known as Raisinets!

Step 9: You Did It!

There you go! You are now finished and have a yummy pie that is cleverly disguised as a pizza.
Be sure to store it in an air tight container or seal it with cling wrap and store in the fridge until ready to consume!
