Introduction: The Secret to a Better Basketball Jumper Made From PVC Pipes and Hula Hoop

This is a basketball training device use to improve your jumpshot. How so? It forces the player to have a higher shooting release, which prevents them from being blocked. It also forces them to have a higher arc on their shot, which scientifically proven, greatly improves the chances of the ball going in the hoop. This entire project was made from home supplies that were meant to be discarded. I have now turned it into training equipment which I believe will greatly benefit basketball players.

Step 1: Materials

  • 1 6' foot long, 1'' diameter PVC pipe
  • 2 2' foot long, 1" diameter PVC pipes
  • 4 1' foot long, 1" diameter PVC pipes
  • 1 1" diameter PVC 90 Degree Elbow
  • 3 1x1x1" Schedule 40 PVC Tees
  • 1 3/4"x3/4"x3/4" Schedule 40 PVC Tee
  • 1 Hula Hoop
  • 1 Pair of Pliers
  • Tape

Step 2: The Base

I started off by making the ends of the H-shaped base first. I made one side by connecting 2 1' long PVC pipes using a 1x1x1" PVC tee. I made sure the PVC tee had the open side towards the middle and not the outside. This creates one side of the base. I repeated this process one more time for the other leg of the H shaped base.

Step 3: Connecting the Legs of the H-shaped Base

This step connects the two legs of the H together. I used 2 2' long PVC pipes and connected them together using a 1x1x1" PVC tee. I made sure the tee was facing up so I could attach the next PVC pipes in the following steps.

Step 4: The Long Part

This step makes the longest part of the device. I connected a 6' long PVC pipe to the PVC tee in the previous step, and i made it go vertical, up and down.

Step 5: The Elbow

Attach the 1x1" 90 degree PVC elbow to the top of the 6' PVC pipe.

Step 6: Hula Hoop Attachment

Cut the Hula Hoop using pliers. After cutting, the hula hoop is now like a rope, so we then we take both ends and put them through the 3/4x3/4x3/4" PVC tee. We adjust the length accordingly to make sure the hula hoop isn't lopsided when we place it on top of the 6' PVC pipe. We then tape the two ends together make sure the hula hoop stays in place. When this is done, we finally attach the tee with the hula hoop to the PVC elbow at the top of the 6' pipe.

Step 7:
