The Hat Keeper

The hat keeper, You might be wondering what it is but you will soon find out.

I was out boating recently and to avoid sunburn on my face I took a hat, my hat nearly blew off several times.

I wanted to put my head in the fast wind stream without losing my hat so I came up with the idea of the "hat keeper" read on to see how to make it.

Step 1: What You Need.

OK, what you need is the following things:

1. Bulldog clip (or strong peg)
2. about 30cm (1ft) paracord
3. hat
4. at least 1 whole read through the instructions so you know what you are doing in advance
5. Last but not least, move on to step 2!

Step 2: The Start

In step one we have to attach the cord to the hat.

First, tie a overhand stopper knot (granny knot) and add another twist, pull tight making sure you leave a tail about 1inch long.

Next, open the Velcro adjusting strap about halfway and lay the small tail on the stiff hook part of the Velcro and re-seal so it looks good.

The last thing you have to do is go to step 3.

Step 3: Attach the Hat to the Clip

Now we need to tie a "figure eight" knot onto one of the metal loops of the bulldog clip, if you are using a peg you will need to drill a hole and tie the knot through it, if you can't follow my instructions, go to this link and follow it to step 5.

Make sure you tie it very tight.

After you have done all this it should look like the last photo on this step.

Step 4: How to Fit and Use

Fitting is as simple as a normal hat, once on your head all you have to do is put the clip on your shirt and that is it!

Putting the clip on the front or back of the shirt is up to you.

When you go out into a high wind area with this hat and it blows off, it will be safely caught on your shirt for you to put back on.
