Thresher Shark Costume

As a project for my school everyone built a costume out of cardboard using only slotted construction. The class was split into groups and each group had to pick a marine theme for their costumes. My team chose sharks.

Design Brief
I had to design a marine themed cardboard costume for a 10 to 13 year old. This costume was to be worn as a halloween costume for the child. I had to use slotted construction to make this costume.

Specifications
The costume must be made of cardboard.
The costume must not use fasteners.

The costume must be comfortable and easy to move in.

Step 1: Making of P1. Front Face

1. Measure dimensions for the shape of the (P1)front face, mouth, arm holes and connection slots using a (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure 4 feet top to bottom, 2 1/2 feet across for the fins (as shown in the picture), 2 feet at the base of the costume for the bottom fins, 6 inches in from the outside of each side fin for the arm holes which are 4 inches in diameter all using a (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure 9 inches down from the tip and 3 inches in from each side to make the mouth, measure 1 inch from each side and 1 inch down from the mouth for the (P5) face connector slots and measure them 6 inches across and 1/2 inch down with (T3) ruler and/or (T5).
2. Draw the shapes, with a (T4) pencil, with the dimensions from the previous step that will be cut out with a (T2) utility knife.
3. Cut out the shapes using a (T2) utility knife and make sure you are cutting on a (T1) cutting mat.

  

Step 2: Making of P2. Back Face

1. Measure dimensions for the shape of the (P2) back face and connection slots the (P3) tail, (P4) dorsal fin and (P5) face connectors using a (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure the same dimensions for the shape of the body and the (P5) face connector slots as (P1) front face with (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. In addition to these measurements, measure 3 inches down from directly in between the (P5) face connector slots and then measure 6 inches down from that point and 1/2 inch across for the (P3) tail slot with (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure 3 inches up from the middle of the base of the piece and from that point measure 6 inches up and 1/2 inch across for the (P4) dorsal fin slot with the (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape.
2. Draw the shapes, with a (T4) pencil, with the dimensions from the previous step that will be cut out with a (T2) utility knife.
3. Cut out the shapes using a (T2) utility knife and make sure you are cutting on a (T1) cutting mat. 

Step 3: Making of P3. Tail

1. Measure dimensions for the shape of the (P3) tail using a (T3) ruler and/or (T4) measuring tape. Using a 2 feet by 2 feet sheet of cardboard measure 6 inches ,on the left side, up from the bottom then from that point measure 6 inches up and measure 10 inches across from the bottom of the 6 inch measurement then measure 6 inches across then measure straight down from directly in between those two points to the bottom of the piece with two diagonal lines using (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure 1 foot across from the top of the six inch measurement and from the end of this point measure a diagonal line to the upper right corner of the square of cardboard using (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Along the bottom line measure 5 inches up and 1/2 inch across using (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. 
2. Draw the shapes, with a (T4) pencil, with the dimensions from the previous step that will be cut out with a (T2) utility knife.
3. Cut out the shapes using a (T2) utility knife and make sure you are cutting on a (T1) cutting mat.

Step 4: Making of P4. Dorsal Fin

1. Measure dimensions for the shape of the (P4) dorsal fin using a (T3) ruler and/or (T4) measuring tape. Using a 9 inch by 6 inch sheet of (S1) cardboard measure 1 inch up from the bottom of the 9 inch side then from that point measure 1/2 inch up and 3 inches out with (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. on the other side from the side where the last measurements were made and measure 3 inches up fro the bottom and then a diagonal line to the upper corner using (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape.
2. Draw the shapes, with a (T4) pencil, with the dimensions from the previous step that will be cut out with a (T2) utility knife.
3. Cut out the shapes using a (T2) utility knife and make sure you are cutting on a (T1) cutting mat.

Step 5: Making of P5. Face Connectors

1. Measure dimensions for the shape of the (P5) face connector using a (T3) ruler and/or (T4) measuring tape. Using 1 foot by 5 inch sheet of (S1) cardboard and measure 1 inch in from each side and from that point measure 1/2 inch across and 3 inches up on each side with (T3) ruler and/or (T5) measuring tape. Measure 6 inches across and in the middle of that measure 3 inches down as shown in the picture, to later form a circle.
2. Draw the shapes, with a (T4) pencil, with the dimensions from the previous step that will be cut out with a (T2) utility knife.
3. Cut out the shapes using a (T2) utility knife and make sure you are cutting on a (T1) cutting mat.4. Repeat exactly for second (P5) face connector.

Step 6: Assembly Step 1

Attach the (P2) back face and the (P3) tail by sliding the (P3) tail into and down the connection slot nearest the bottom of the (P2) bottom face with the slot in the (P3) tail facing down.

Step 7: Assembly Step 2

Attach the (P2) back face and the (P4) dorsal fin by sliding the (P4) dorsal fin into and down the connection slot in the middle of the (P2) bottom face with the slot in the (P4) dorsal fin facing down.

Step 8: Assembly Step 3

Attach the two (P5) face connectors into the (P1) front face and (P2) back face by sliding the (P5) face connectors into the connection slots, the slots closest to the top of the (P1) front face and (P2) back face, in then across with the slots facing in.
