Introduction: Time Bomb LED Clock Using Old Intel Pentium II Processor

Another Covid-19 lock down creation. This time is Time Bomb clock. All of us have seen comic time bombs in various Hollywood and Bollywood hindi movies. I have a Intel Pentium-II processor in my junk box along with old hard disks. During this lock down time I decided to make something of it. Suddenly an idea came and with a LED clock kit made this Time Bomb Clock.

Step 1: Prepare the Base for the Processor

I took the old hard disk and removed its platters, servo motor, actuator arm, other electronics and PCB. The remaining aluminum part was a bit large so I cut it in two.

Step 2: Paint It Black

After cutting the hard disk base in required size, painted it black after grinding its sharp edges. Also tighten 2 screwed so that the processor can be mounted on it.

Step 3: Prepare the Clock

The assembled LED clock kit was laying around from an year. I just ditched its LED display, extended its data wires and painted them black to match the theme.

Step 4: Assemble the Time Bomb Clock

Attached the LED display on front fact of the Pentium-II processor and guided its data wires to back. The clock circuit PCB is fixed to back of processor with double sided tape.

Step 5: Power Failure Backup

Generally a CR2032 is used as time back up for the clock in case of power failure. The clock design does not have a CR2032 battery backup provision. Therefore, I have attached one 18650 Li-ion battery to power the clock in case of power failure. The clock runs on 5v-12v supply but the power supplied by 18650 is around 3.7v. This is enough to run the internal clock even if the LED display is not visible.

Step 6: Final

Attach a usb power cable to PCB and a 5v USB power supply. Done. The time bomb LED clock is ready.
