Introduction: Tips on Sanding a Cut Glass Wine Bottle Edges

Before I showed how to cut a wine bottle the best way here and gave away my free plans here: http://www.glassetchingsecrets.com/blog/home-made-bottle-cutter/

Now, I wanted to share some tips on sanding the edges of the cut line quickly by using a sanding drum. This is one of the better ways that I thought of lately. An even better way for the outer and tops edges is to use a stationary sanding pad which is rotary powered.

Using this sanding drum is the best way for the inside in my opinion. Thanks to the commentor for suggesting I should include safety info, so I wrote up some tips and suggestions on my blog here. Leave me any comments if you have questions or think of a better way. Thanks!

Great video. I've used the process you describe, and it works well. One thing I didn't hear you mention (perhaps I missed it) was breathing protection. Sanding glass creates silica dust, which presents the danger of silicosis if inhaled. Sanding glass shouldn't be performed without adequate ventilation, as well as eye and breathing protection.

Yes, I definitely forgot that. That was one of a few things I wanted to say, but never added.

The low rpm will create some silica dust, so it;s best to use at least a carbon filtered mask. Or you could just dip the drum in water from time to time. Also use safety glasses!

    Thanks for the suggestion
