Introduction: Torsion Analysis

In this project I have done used fusion 360 of Autodesk.

In this project I have used model and simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this project I have fixed one end of steel bar.

Length of bar is 24 cm.

Moment applied on the other end is 30 N mm.

Then I have analysed steel bar for , Factor of safety, stress ,displacement, reaction force, strain .

Step 1:

In this step I am in the model work space of fusion 360.

I have drawn a circle.

Diameter of circle is 10 cm.

I have provided front view and home view of circle.

Step 2:

In this step I am in the model work space of fusion 360.

I have extruded the circle drawn in previous step.

Length of cylinder obtained is 24 cm.

I have provided the extruded home view of cylinder.

Step 3:

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have fixed one end of the steel cylinder.

In this step of simulation study I have applied a moment of 30 N mm

to the other side of steel cylinder.

Step 4:

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have analysed the steel cylinder for stress caused due

to applied moment.

Due to applied moment shear stress acts on steel cylinder.

SI unit of shear stress is Newton per Meter square.

The blue region on the steel cylinder shows minimum or least shear stress.

The Red region on the steel cylinder shows maximum shear stress.

Shear stress on a body acts , in a plane parallel to the cross section area.see

We can see at the center of cylinder value of shear stress is almost zero.

We can also see that , at the outer surface of steel cylinder value of shear stress is maximum.

In this case maximum value of shear stress is 251.3 Pa.

In this case maximum value of shear stress is 2.99 Pa.

Step 5:

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have analysed the steel cylinder for the displacement caused

due to the applied moment of 30 N mm.

The blue region shown represents the minimum or least displacement.

The red region shown represents the maximum displacement.

The SI unit of displacement is meters .

Displacement is a vector quantity .

Vector quantity have both magnitude and direction.

We can see that about the fixed end displacement is minimum .

We can also see that about the free end Displacement is maximum.

Displacement reduces as we move from free end to fixed end.

In this case value of maximum displacement is 4.178 E-10 m.

In this case minimum displacement is 0 m.

Step 6:

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have analysed the steel cylinder for the reaction force generated by

the free end , in response to the applied moment of 30 N mm.

The blue region shows the minimum reaction force .

The red region shows the maximum reaction force.

In this figure we can see that maximum reaction force shown around the

fixed face of steel cylinder.

The value of maximum reaction force is 0.02603 N.

Step 7:

In this step I am in simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have analysed the body for the strain produced due to applied

moment of 30 N mm.

This pictures shows that the variations of strain in this case is almost identical

with the variation caused due to stress.

The blue region shows minimum strain .

The red region shows maximum strain.

Strain is the ratio of change in length and original length , hence strain has no units.

Step 8:

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

In this step I have analysed the body about the safety factor.

Applied actual load on the body is maximum load divided by the factor of safety.

In this case maximum factor of safety is 15.

In this case minimum factor of safety is also 15.
