Intro: Triangular Paper Fruit Bowl

DIY fruit bowl made out of old magazines!

STEP 1: Step 1. Materials

Requirements:

-Old magazines
-Glue stick
-Glue pistol

STEP 2: Step 2. Making the Strips

Step 2:

Tear a page from a magazine. Cut off a slip of paper of about 3 centimetres. Fold the slip of paper three times so that you obtain a folded slip of paper of 1 centimetre. Unfold the slip of paper and put glue in between and fold it again. Repeat this process until you have a reasonable amount of slips of paper.

STEP 3: Step 2. Making the Triangles

Step 2:

Now you can start making little triangles of the folded slips. First draw a isosceles triangle that you can use as a standard (the size of the triangle can be determined by yourself). Take a slip of paper and fold it in the same size as the triangle that you have drawn. Fix it with the glue pistol and fix two other slips of paper around the triangle. So for every triangle you use three slips of paper. Repeat this process until you have a reasonable amount of little triangles.

STEP 4: Step 3. Building the Bowl

Step 3:

The fruit dish is built up out of little triangles. You begin with a basis of three triangles that are positioned flat on the foundation. From the basis you slowly make the fruit dish bigger and bigger. You glue the triangles together with the glue pistol. In order to get a dish shape every triangle is to be glued a bit higher. The curve of the fruit dish as well as the size of it can be determined by yourself.

STEP 5: Step 5. Sealing the Bowl

Step 4:

Now the fruit dish only is to be treated with a sealer.

STEP 6: Step 6. Finished Bowl

Lots of fun with your fruit dish !

What kind of sealer did you use?
This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your hard work and great fun! Looking forward to seeing more.
"First draw a isosceles triangle that you can use as a standard"

I think an isosceles triangle would work, but what you have there is an equilateral triangle.

Interesting bowl, though. Thank you for sharing.
An equilateral triangle is an isosceles triangle.
But an isosceles triangle is not an equilateral triangle, which is what the author has used...
an isosceles triangle requires for exactly two sides to be congruent, whilst the equilateral triangle three. Though you could argue that the equilateral is an isosceles, it is debunked due to the fact that all sides (of an equilateral triangle) are equal and does not have a side that is not congruent.
This definition, "An isosceles triangle is a triangle with (at least) two equal sides." is from WolframMathworld: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/IsoscelesTriangle.html.  Wolfram also states, " An equilateral triangle is therefore a special case of an isosceles triangle having not just two, but all three sides and angles equal."

Thanks to Albin Goossen for a clever Instructable!
ahhhh... I always assumed that an isosceles triangle was a triangle with specifically two sides, but I guess not. lol
Amazing !!! great job will it look good if painted ?
Thank you all for the compliments and reactions!

@ romaine: yes I did.

@ ib42: the bowl is really very stable and stiff.

So nice to see upcycling projects, thanks, your idea is great. I'd like to try it with PET.
'or' bananas, of course....
Does the weight of, say, a dozen apples of bananas cause the whole thing to sag and give up?
Great project! I will definitely try this.

I suppose you put a finishing strip all around?

@ Don H. : isn't Mod Podge just PVA glue?
