Introduction: Trumpet Position Corrector
I started playing trumpet when I was in 7th grade. For the time I have been playing in my school band, I constantly see the band director stress just how important air circulation and posture are to a instrument players. For trumpet players, posture does not refer to just the way we sit on the seats, it also refers to how the hands are being positioned to hold the trumpet. I have seen a few individuals who struggle to hold a trumpet correctly (not including my friends who do not play the instrument), and the grip they use is usually known as the death grip, a tight grip on the trumpet where the player's palm touches the side of the trumpet and fingers entangled. This prevents the player from pressing on the valves smoothly, which can make it difficult to play fast music. Therefore, to help those individuals with the "death grip", I made the trumpet position corrector, which will help them get used to the correct way to hold the trumpet and abstain from death grip.
Step 1: Step 1: Collect All Materials
wood, screws, mechanical drill, mechanical saw, tape measure-er
Step 2: Step 2: Measure the Dimensions
Measure two 1in x 1in x 6in of wood and a 1in x 1in x 2in of wood. Mark the spots for where the cut will be made later.
Step 3: Step 3: Cutting
Use the mechanical saw and cut through the mark to produce the 3 pieces of wood. Cut each of them again into halves lengthwise.
Step 4: Step 4: Drilling
Find the center at each end of the longer wood pieces. Line up the ends of the longer wood pieces to the end of the long side of the shorter wood pieces. Use the mechanical drill to drill screws through the shorter pieces into the longer end of the longer pieces for a total of 4 times. The object should now take the form of a frame.
Step 5: Step 5: Additional Thickness
Use the two 1x1x6 in wood pieces left and screw them onto the long side of the frame. This would allow the space between the hand and the trumpet to be wider apart, preventing the player from reverting back to the death grip.
Step 6: Step 6: Other Materials for Usage
Needed Materials: a string or some material that can be attached to the sides of the frame and tape
When using the trumpet position corrector, use the tape and tape one side of the string to one end of the trumpet position corrector. Then, measure just enough string to wrap around the valves of the trumpet to the other side of the frame and cut the rest of the unused string. Before playing on the trumpet, attach the corrector to the right hand side of the trumpet next to the valves and wrap the string around. Finally, add another piece of tape to the other side of the frame to force the corrector in place.
