Introduction: Tuna Patty
Tuna patties are great as appetizer. Kids love them very much. These patties can be made in advanced and stored in freezer. I hope you enjoy making them.
Ingredients: (makes 14-15)
Tuna Chunks-2 Cans (160g cans) well drained
Boiled Potatoes – 3 medium (Boil with 1 tea spoon of salt)
Salt – 1 Tea Spoon or to taste
Black Pepper Powder – 1 Tea Spoon
Cumin Powder – 1 & ½ Tea Spoons
Coriander Powder - 1 & ½ Tea Spoons
Paprika Powder - 1 Tea Spoon
Green Chillis – 5-6 or to taste
Onion – 1 small/medium
Small Eggs – 2 (1 for the mixture and 1 for dipping before frying)
Oil – for frying
Step 1: Step 1
Boil potatoes with 1 tea spoon of salt. When potatoes are soft, drain them very well. Mash potatoes in a bowl.
Drain tuna chunks very well and keep on a separate bowl.
Step 2: Step 2
In the bowl of mashed potatoes, put salt, black pepper powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, paprika powder, green chillies and onions. Mix very well. You may use hands to mix everything properly.
Now add the tuna and 1 beaten egg and again mix thoroughly. At this stage I find it easier to use my hands.
Step 3: Step 3
Now let’s make the shapes. Rub some plain oil in your palms. This will make the process much simpler. Take a small portion of the mixture and first make a round shape and then gently flatten the top and bottom part with the help of your palms. Place the chops on a tray or plate and finish making all of them.
Step 4: Step 4
Beat another egg in a bowl and set aside.
Heat some oil in a frying pan. When oil is medium hot, dip tuna chops in egg and then gently place them in the pan. Make sure the chops are well covered in egg. You may skip this step but rolling the chops in beaten egg actually helps them stay intact during frying process.
Turn the chops when one side is golden and continue frying the other side. When both sides are done frying, drain the chops from oil and place on paper towel lined plate or tray.
Step 5: Enjoy
You can enjoy them immediately with some ketchup or chutney.
These Tuna chops can be made well in advance and stored in freezer. You will have to thaw them before frying. Sometimes I bake them in oven, a healthier option. All you have to do is place them in a foil lined baking tray and brush with some oil. Heat should be 160 degrees Celsius.
Fried chops can be stored in air-tight container and can be re-heated later and it will still taste great.
