I am a 9th-grade student at The Lawrenceville School.

As a math lover, I’ve always thought π (pi) is a magical and fascinating symbol—it’s not just the soul of mathematics but also carries a timeless beauty. What if we could turn it into a playable puzzle toy? That would be the ultimate geeky dream! Even years later, we could still hold it in our hands and enjoy fitting the pieces together, just like solving a math problem.

Step 1: Design the Shape & Pattern

  1. Design the π Shape: Start by sketching a sleek π outline as the puzzle’s base.
  2. Choose a Pattern for Splitting: Tried a few different splitting methods and finally settled on Moiré patterns—this way, the puzzle pieces will have a dynamic visual effect. So cool!

Step 2: CAD Drawing + Fusion 360 Modeling

Using CAD software to trace the outlines of the PI and color blocks, then using Fusion 360 to add thickness and boundary contours, render to observe the effect, and adjust the colors and edges of the color blocks.

Step 3: 3D Printing

  1. Print it with my favorite material (like PLA), making sure every piece fits perfectly.

Step 4: Add Color

Finally, paint the inner puzzle pieces in vibrant colors—done!

Now, we’ve got not just a math-themed toy, but also a fun way to appreciate π’s geometric beauty. Nerdy happiness, pure and simple!
