Introduction: Twin Towers Melted Crayon Memorial

I have created a memorial dedicated to the remembrance of 9-11. This was done in order to remember the lives that were lost on that fateful day, and to pay respects to the families of those who lost loved ones. 9-11 will go down as one of the most traumatic days in U.S. History. I did this by using melted crayons which created a very pretty and colorful picture, as well as a cut out of the twin towers.

Supplies

The Supplies

  • Two boxes of Crayons (Using the colorful, vibrant ones)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Blank canvas
  • A paper cut out of the twin towers background,.
  • two paper covers for the cut out.
  • Hairdryer
  • White sheets of paper

Step 1: Glue the Crayons Down

Step 1

  • Taking the canvas, glue gun, and several crayons, glue the top of the canvas and evenly line up each of the crayons by sticking them next to each other. Taking the crayons, separate them into the rainbow colors so that it creates a very pretty final touch whenever the piece is finished. Make sure that each crayon is glued on properly and does not fall off whenever the melting process begins. You don't want a mess so make sure to set white paper behind the canvas so glue does not get anywhere.

Step 2: Cut Out the Background and Glue It Down

Step 2

  • You will need a printer to be able to print out a silhouette of the twin towers which can be found on the web. Once found and printed, cut out the silhouette and line it up on the canvas. After finding the perfect place to put it, glue it down and make sure that it is COMPLETELY glued, you don't want the silhouette to rub off during the melting process.

Step 3: Cover the Background and Begin Melting the Crayons

Step 3

  • Take the canvas and lay it down over some more white sheets of paper, this is where you will start the melting process. You must cover the tops of the twin towers with some form of cover (I used paper) to not let any crayon get on the silhouette. After doing this, you can begin by using a hairdryer with full heat and laying the heat on the crayons, which will melt them. This process could take doing it a couple of times to get the right drip affect you are looking for in the piece. Once you have found a good length, you let it dry and then you are finished! the final piece is a very pretty creation that's meant to serve as a remembrance for the lives lost in 9-11.
