Introduction: Uncurl Curling Leather Cord: Just a Technique

About: Either nobody makes the stuff I want, or I can't find the stuff I want, or the stuff is too expensive. So, I decided to make the stuff I want. I created this profile to kind of keep track of the stuff I make. …

I've been making some adjustable leather necklaces, but there is a problem. The leather cord maintains its curled shape when coming off the spool. So, I spent some time searching the 'net for a solution. One such solution make me remember that I have a tool that might actually work for this. Here is my experiment.

Supplies

For equipment, you will need:

  1. A wire straightener

For materials, you will need:

  1. A length of plain leather cord

NOTE: I have not yet attempted this technique on anything but plain leather cord. I have done nothing dyed, braided, or not leather. Use this technique on other materials at your own risk.

Step 1: Set the Cord on the Straightener

Set the cord on the straightener.

Step 2: Wrap the Straightener Around the Cord

Wrap the straightener around the cord.

Step 3: Pull the Cord Through the Straightener

Pull the cord through the straightener.

Step 4: Voilà!

You now have a mostly uncurled leather cord.
