Create an epic underwater selfie wall that’ll make everyone feel like they’re in the depths of the ocean (without getting wet)! Perfect for a Halloween haunt, this DIY is spooky, stylish, and oh-so-simple. Just follow these steps to transform your wall into a mysterious, coral-covered backdrop!

Supplies

Backdrop: A large black foam board, corrugated board, dark fabric, or cardboard painted black.

Paper Cupcake Holders: For creating barnacles.

PE Expandable Foam: For coral effects.

Spray Paints: Dark colors like green, purple, and deep blue for an eerie ocean vibe.

Skeleton or Sea-Themed Decorations: Optional, but a skeleton always adds a spooky touch.

Zip Ties: The easiest way to attach corals to the backdrop.

Glue Gun: For attaching clusters of barnacles.

Double-Sided Tape: For extra security on smaller decorations.

Step 1: Foam, Paint, Attach

Create Your Coral:

  1. Take your PE expandable foam and go wild! Randomly spray shapes and blobs to form coral shapes. Let it dry for a few hours (or overnight), until the foam hardens.

Paint Your Coral:

  1. Once the foam has dried, grab your dark-colored spray paints and cover the coral pieces. Think deep sea tones—dark green, moody purple, and eerie blues. No need for perfection; the ocean is messy!

Build the Selfie Wall:

  1. Secure your black backdrop (foam board, fabric, or cardboard) in place.
  2. Attach the foam coral pieces to the backdrop using zip ties for the sturdiest hold. (Trust me, a glue gun won’t cut it here, and double-sided tape might not be strong enough, but zip ties work like a charm.)

Add Barnacles:

  1. Cluster the paper cupcake holders in groups and glue them to the backdrop using a glue gun. Layer them to look like barnacles, giving your wall a more realistic sea-floor vibe.

Accessorize (Optional):

  1. Got a skeleton lying around? (Who doesn’t, right?) Pop it onto the selfie wall for an extra spooky touch! Or, add any other sea-themed decorations you have on hand.

Not feeling spooky? Skip the skeleton, use fresher and more vibrant colours and change the backdrop to blue for a more “under the sea” party vibe.
