Introduction: Unique Food and Water Dispensing Bird Feeder Open Source With 3d Printable Files

I have always enjoyed feeding birds and providing them water however there was no proper and "clean" way of doing so. I used to place a tumbler full of water along with some bird food in a dish, however birds used to turn it into a mess.....

So I thought of buying a bird feeder but after looking at the available options, I was not at all satisfied with any design. Almost all bird feeders have a separate water and fodder system. I did not have enough space in my window to attach two separate dispensers. So instead I designed this "2 in 1 Food + Water dispenser for birds ", the best part is... this is literally a one of its kind design, I was not able to find such a design anywhere.

This bird feeder features an automatic water dispensing mechanism which keeps the water vessel always filled, same goes with the fodder dispenser. So you need not worry about your favorite pets going hungry : )

Step 1: Design

I started with designing the bird food dispenser in Fusion 360. I made sure that the designed files are easy to 3d print without any supports. The entire design has been divided into 3 parts.

  1. Water Dispenser
  2. Feeder Pipe for Fodder
  3. Fodder Dispenser

Step 2: 3D Printing

You can use any slicing software to slice these files, I recommend an Infill of 15% for a standard 0.4 mm Nozzle

Step 3: Cut Both Bottles From Base Side

Next I cut 2 soda bottles from the base, bottle at left has a capacity of 2.5 litre and will serve as our water storage, bottle on right has a capacity of 750ml and will serve as our fodder storage.

Step 4: Screw the Fodder Feeder Onto Smaller Bottle

Now let's carefully screw the fodder feeder to our smaller bottle

Step 5: Attach the Water Dispenser

Next we insert the smaller bottle into the larger bottle and screw in our water dispenser

Step 6: Connect the Fodder Dispenser to Feed Tube

Now we will attach the feeder tube to our fodder dispenser, for this we will simply screw the feeder tube and with this the bird feeder is ready.

Step 7: Carefully Hook the Entire Assembly

Using a suitably strong rope we will now attach the food dispenser to a strong hook. Please make sure to use thick ropes which will be visible to birds and wont possibly hurt them by tangling into their wings/feathers.

Step 8: Load and Auto Reload

With the dispenser nicely secured we can now load both food and water into their respective dispensers, birds in your vicinity now need not worry about supplies as both food and water will keep on rolling !
