Introduction: Upcycled Chip Can Bike Bag

For about $3, I reused/upcycled a Lays Stax can into a bike storage container. The container is waterproof, and easily carries some repair tools, keys, IDs, etc.. It can be installed on your frame or behind the rear seat.

This works better than some of the storage pouches I've purchased over the years.

Step 1: Supplies

Items needed:

• Empty Lays Stax can

For seat mounted installation:

• 2 eye bolts
• 2 nuts
• 2 lock nuts
• 2 washers
• 2 chain quick connect links (or carabiners)

For frame mounted installation:

• Velcro

Step 2: Frame Installation

To install on my top post, first I hot glued strips of velcro to the empty container.

Installation was as simple as attaching other strips of velcro around the container and the top post.

Step 3: Rear Seat Installation, Step 1

Installing on the rear seat is also a snap.

First, drill some holes in the Stax can. Where they will be depends on the location of the undercarriage of your seat.

Step 4: Rear Seat Installation, Step 2

Next, attach eye bolts to the container using nuts, washers, and lock nuts.

• Screw the regular nuts as far up the eye bolt as they will go, followed by a washer.
• Then thread the eye bolt through the Stax can.
• Follow up with another washer and a lock nut from the inside.

Step 5: Rear Installation, Step 3

Attach the container to the undercarriage of your seat using the chain quick connect links.

You're all done. Enjoy riding with your new, cheap storage container.
