Being someone who likes lamps, but not something that shop bought, something thats "different".

Having a new shop opening in the town where I live, which has everything I need, that being off the wall items, which when looked at from a non standard angle can be re-used and upcycled.

The lamp that I saw while looking around was meant for a candle, which when I looked at it I thought would look nice, but had room for improvement.

Step 1: Bill of Materials

Bulb Holder, I went for an antique look, as I felt the bright Brass would look wrong.

Bulb, there are a few type of these bulbs commonly known as Edison Bulbs, but as you know, Edison invested the long life bulb, the reason for the name is the similarity between the bulb he created in the late 1800's, rather that the normal incandesant bulb now commonly seen.

The bulb can vary in size, and shape, I have used a 40w, "Squirrel Cage" Bulb for this as I like the effect.

Step 2: Putting It Together, Electrics

Remember, this is main electric, it kills. If you do not know what you are doing, please, do not do it, find someone who does and can help.

I used 3 core fabric covers wire of an appropriate size for the load, I used 3 core for earthing purposes.

First, I wired the buld holder,

Second measured 1meter, and installed the Inline Switch,

Third, I wired the 3 pin plug, ensuring again, I used the correct rating fure, in this case, 3amp.

To calculate the correct rating fuse, use teh following formulae :

I (Amps) = P (Watts) ÷ V (Voltage)

40 / 240 = 0.16

The smallest fuse available is 3amps.

Step 3: Mounting the Bulb Holder

In this example I have used bright green cable ties so they could be seen easily, I will replace with with black.

Also, please note that there is an extra cable tie to act as a cable strain device, this is to help should someone accidently trip or pull on the wire and prevent the live wires being pulled out of the buld holder.
