Intro: Upcycled Microwave Into Funky Flower Pot

listen everyone! who says shiny is a must??

We all have microwave ovens which are very functional when they work but are rarely repairable when they do not. So what do you do? we put one on a bonfire which burnt all the plastic and paintwork off and then it corrode up real nice, beautiful browns and oranges also known as rust!!! so we put it in the garden and filled it with plants, the ventilation makes interesting design! A microwave should be quick and convenient when it works and we now have shown it can make a great quick and convenient plant/flower pot when it doesn't!

stop the drama! obviously you can remove the components! the reason why it would be placed in a fire is to remove the paint ! or you can use lots of chemicals and abrasions and rub it off instead. this create more pollutants than a wooden based bonfire, once the fire is at maximum temp the heat destroys any contaminates. if it went for recycling it goes into a shredder and all the plastic and paint is burnt off any way.

The heat won't destroy any contaminants, it just releases them. If this was true, burning all of our trash would be a completely ecologically clean waste disposal solution.

It is just dangerous to be around. I don't know if this should even be on this site.

Not only are you causing pollution it is also a waist of the materials that could be recycled (rare metals for example).

This is a bad idea. Removing all parts from the case is a must if you wanted to do it.

Don't follow this "Instructable". Burning out the microwave case is a really bad idea. You're releasing tons of toxins into the atmosphere, and into the ground with the ashes. Take the time that the microwave will have to sit in the fire burning, and disassemble it to recycle all the electronics, metals and plastics. Then, if you really want to have the rusty base metal (which won't last nearly as long), you can still toss it on the fire and you won't even need to wait as long as burning out the whole thing.
