Using Onshape to 3D Print

Introduction: Using Onshape to 3D Print

Visit https://www.onshape.com/ and create an account. Click on the create button to create a new document. Your screen should now look like the photo above.

In this example, we will be creating a model railroad track and servo holder.

Supplies

All you need is your laptop and a 3D printer.

Step 1: Creating a Sketch

Select the "top" face from the cube diagram in the top right.

Click on the plane that appears in the middle of the screen.

In the top left, select "Sketch"; from the menu, select the rectangle icon.

By dragging your mouse, you can create a rectangle. Change dimensions with the keyboard.

Step 2: Extrusion

Click on the extrude button in the top left. Change the height by typing it in.

Step 3: Creating Extrusions Upon an Object

Click on "top" view from the cube in the top left. Using the sketch tools, create the sketch as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Extrusion, Continued

You can extrude that sketch, as well. You are left with an extrusion on top of another object. This allows you to create a lot more different designs.

Step 5: Finished Design

After playing around with the many different commands, you can finalize the design. Use the mirror and plane functions as needed.

Step 6: Export the Design

Export as an STL file as shown in the picture. Keep in mind naming conventions. Make sure that the dimensions are correct (in millimeters).

Step 7: Use Polar3D to Print

Upload the STL file to Polar3D. You can now 3D print the design. When printing, make sure to follow these steps:

1. Make sure that there is glue on the pad.

2. Make sure that the design is centered on Polar3D.

3. When printing, make sure that the plastic isn't jammed.
