This Folded Book Art is a perfect gift to give for Valentine's Day!
After searching for a while i found this website that offers patterns
In the next steps i'll explain to you how to fold this heart into a book. (I used a picture from their website for the front image)

STEP 1: Collecting the Materials Needed
For us to be able to create folded book art we need a few things:
- We need a book. It's best to use a hardcovered book, as these books will give the best results when displaying them.
- We need a ruler in centimeters, as these patterns are displayed in centimeters
- And ofcourse we need a pencil to mark the pages.
STEP 2: Marking the Pages
For this heart pattern we need to mark and fold 139 sheets of paper.
The patter i use is in centimeters, so please get a ruler that displays centimeters.
Now pick up the book like normal when you would read it (Like in the first image of this step)
Now turn the book a quarter, so your hand ends up on the right of the book and the page numbers (in this case) end up in the right upper corner. Like in the second image.
The book is now positioned right. It has to stay in this position during the process of marking the folds.
Now place your ruler on the book like in the third image. Make sure the beginning of the ruler is on the left side of the book.
The first two values you need to mark according to the pattern are: 7.5 centimeters and 8.1 centimeters. So place two marks on those two values. If done right, you now have marked the first page and there's a gap of 0.6 centimeters between the marks. It looks similar to the fourth image.
Now go to the next page (the second page). Here you mark the following values: 6.9 centimeter and 8.8 centimeter
On the third page you mark the following values: 6.6 centimeters and 9.1 centimeters.

STEP 3:
After you marked all the pages you can start folding.
Place the book in front of you like in the first image of this step.
Then fold each page twice on the marks you made in the previous step, like you can see in the second and third image. Try to keep the folds at 90 degrees or as close to it as possible.
Repeat these steps untill you have folded all the marked pages.
When finished folding, you're done! You've created your own folded book art now. Now go ahead and look for more patterns, as all of their patterns work in the same way.

Here are a few more tips I learned along the way...
•I
prefer to start at the last sheet and measure down from the top of the page and
make a pencil mark for Fold 1 and Fold 2 (in
cm). These marks and consequently the
folds will face toward the inside pages of the book. It is best to print your
list of folds and cross them off as you perform the marking to avoid falling
out of sequence.
•Work up through the rows until the
Half Way Point is reached then turn the book around and starting from the 1st
sheet measure from the top of the page and make a pencil mark for Fold 1
and Fold 2 (in cm). These marks and
folds will also face the inside pages of the book.
•This method of working both ends of
the pattern toward the middle keeps the folds facing inward towards the middle
of the pattern, creating a more symmetrical finish.
•Once all pages are marked I then
used the same sequence and folded starting at the last sheet until the Half Way
Point is reached then turn the book around and work toward the middle from the
first sheet.
•Make each fold a 90 degree fold if
possible (use the text on the pages as
your guide). If a 90 degree fold is not
possible due to the length of the front edge then simply fold from the pencil
mark to the page binding and cut or fold in the surplus, see pics.
•As an aid for folding I use a heavy
piece of card stock or firm plastic sheet beneath the page I'm folding, then
move it along page by page. This
technique not only helps make smooth folds but it also presses the lower folds
down tightly while i work. I also found that clamping the first completed half together made it easier to work the remaining half.

please help..my pattern looks nothing like this so I am lost
I am looking at page numbers down the left and page numbers across the top of the page, then I have 3 or 4 or in some cases 7 measurements per page number??????
Also how do I know from pattern to pattern if the fold is a:across the top of the page folding the whole page towards me or if the fold is B: down the longest part of the page and into triangles
I am a beginer so if I am being stupid...please be kind :)

No one talks about which direction to fold the pages, in toward the book or out ward. The first book art I did 2 days ago was a single heart. When I stood the book up 1/2 the book looked great, the other side flat.
I started your heart inside a heart and did the first half inward direction to the center folding, and am starting the last half inward to the center again. It is slow going, but looks better so far compared to my first single heart.

Hi I tried this using a diary measuring 15.5cm wide and 21cm high but when I tried to fold over page 14 where the measurements are 5.0 and 5.4 I could not fold over the large side to 90 degrees without ripping the page (which I did not do). Does the book have to be a certain width / height for it to work??

Side note, I didn't have a CM ruler, so I had to convert every single measurement over to inches, all in all this bad boy took me 7 hours to make... But totally worth it!!

It needs 139 foldable pages (sheets of paper). So the last page number should be at least 278. You can also use a book that has more pages, no problem. You should try to center it.

the book I used was over 500 and I started about 10 pages in I don't guess it matters really it just based on how it looks
