Introduction: Velleman Vertex Toolbox
So, a few months ago I bought myself a Velleman Vertex 3D printer.
In the proces I wondered if I needed the special tools and my mom told me to buy them. Because sometimes she knows me better than I know myself, and knew that they would end up with all of my other tools. And that it would be a mess, and bad for the printer.
So, printer build and working, tools in a old shoe box. Not really my style, so here is an instructables on how to lasercut a organizer for your tools.
If you don't want the handles, that's fine, you can edit it in the files. But as I use the printer for workshops and the tools need to come with me where ever I give a workshop: handles!
Step 1: Making the File
As I don't have enough woodworking materials at home, and school was in summerbreak I deceided to go a FabLab to lasercut all of my parts. But for that we need files.
As measurement I used the dimensions of the wreches. As this project was kinda a last minute project, I didn't take the time to design a inside pattern to hold all of the tools .
The small boxes are made in 3mm MDF, the big box in 6mm MDF. And the plates are 60 cm on 30 cm.
Redlines - cutting
Blue lines - deep cut / fast cut
Black - engraving
*Files are ok, though line colour and thickness might need to be changed according to the machine you use.

Step 2: Making the Big Box
1. You should have all of these parts:
- 2x side pannels
- 2x upper and lower plate
- 4x shelves
-1x back pannel
2. Glue one of the sidepannels to the back pannel.
3. Insert the 4 shelves AND the upper plate!
(I forgot it in my version and it gets difficult to place them afterwards.
4. Add second side pannel
5. Add groundpannel.
I've glued them all together for safety, though, depending on the lasercutter, press-2sfit should do.
Step 3: Making the Small Boxes
1. Sort all the pieces out and check if you have everything.
2. Lay one box open (picture 2), check for the gravure to sit to the right side!
3. Glue everything together. Press-fit should do normally (depending on the laser)
4. Make sure that you have a small upper part, and thicker lower part.
*Text on the boxes says:
- losse tools: loose tools (screwdriver, pincers...)
- Reserve stukken: spare parts
- gereedsschapsset: toolset
- moersleutels: wrenches
Step 4: Adding the Hinges to the Lid and Box
In this step we will add the hinges to the boxes.
I've used metal hinges but played with a lot of ideas such as:
- and books with a textile binding to the outside.
But while going through old materials, I found some metal hinges.
1. I first glued them on the spot where I wanted them.
2. If I could I tested if the lids could open and close with ease
3. I screwed the hinges to the wood
4. As I use my printer for workshops (often with kids) I cliped the rest of the screw away.
5. The sugru clay is still on the way, so I taped of the sharp pieces of the screws (Kids safety! and my own)Used
4. Put my tools in place.
