Introduction: Venice Carnival Diorama

About: Avid 3D designer, sculptor, and animator, always looking for ways to improve my skills.

This Instructable will teach you how to make a venetian carnival

The images used were created fully by me with Tinkercad, the design can be found here: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/0q07KNyzyyy

I decided to go with a black and white theme, but this Instructable allows you to pick whatever theme you like!

Supplies

The only supply you really need is a Tinkercad account, which is entirely free. You can sign up for one at https://www.tinkercad.com/

Step 1: Creating the Street

With a typical Venetian streets in mind, you can use the wall shape (titled Wall 3D in the Shape Generators tab) to create that brick like feel. Make sure you set the StickOut to 0.1 to maximize the minimal brick stickout level to make it feel like an actual brick road.

Step 2: Creating the Buildings

Now that the flooring is finished, creating the buildings would be the next easiest part. Aligning box shapes as shown in the image above can provide for a really nice building feel. For the railings on the image to the left, use the multipoint cylinder shape grouped with a couple of rectangles. For even more texture, add some more of the Wall 3D shapes that we used in the previous step. This will give the project more depth.

Step 3: Creating the Carnival Attendees

Creating figures deserves an Instructable of it's own, so I won't go into much detail about actually creating them. Instead, I'll focus on how to embellish them to make them seem like actual partygoers. For any of the figures you create for the scene, a mask is an excellent touch. Venetian masks are part of the history of the carnival, so they are very apt in this case. Some masks tend to look better with a design on it, and for these, I used a Voronoi Shape Generator to achieve the desired look. Male attendees usually seem to wear hats, so the one I created in the image has one. The female attendees have decorated dresses and headpieces, so the ones I created have custom made designs using extruded curves, surfaces, and cylinders. On top of this, I added a moon design for the figure in the middle. When you are completed decorating the figures, add them into the street you've made.

Step 4: You're Finished!

Take a look at your awesome design! You've recreated a beautiful Venetian scene with a black and white appeal! Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope you learned a bit on how to create a diorama!
