Introduction: Vintage-Inspired Window Pane Tutorial

Vintage window panes are a great way to get that rustic farmhouse, touch-of-modern look that everyone is after these days. True vintage window panes, though, can cost a pretty penny. Remembering that I had these panes in my garage, just waiting to be made beautiful, I knew I could get the look for a fraction of the cost! You can find more images and information on my blog, burlap+blue!

Step 1: Apply Paint and Distress

I started by applying 4 coats of Dover White, from the HGTV Home line by Sherwin Williams. I then took a sanding sponge and lightly distressed the corners of each pane. You can distress as much or as little as you'd like, depending on the look you're after.

Step 2: Secure Glass to Panels

My husband secured the glass to each wooden panel, added a heavy-duty hook to the back of each pane, and used screws to attach them to the walls (they are heavy enough that a nail wouldn’t do.)

Found empty panels at a yard sale or flea market, but don't have the glass inserts? There are places online and often locally that will cut glass (or mirror, if you'd prefer!) to fit your panels!

Step 3: Hang and You're Done!

I am thrilled with how these turned out! For a bit of texture and interest, I added a preserved boxwood wreath I found at Home Goods. This wreath is one of my favorite Home Goods finds, and it was only about $25, which is a great price for a nice-sized boxwood wreath.
