Vintage Musical Instrument Restoration and Reproduction

Introduction: Vintage Musical Instrument Restoration and Reproduction

My name is Bill Deiss and I am a 47 year old musical instrument technician. My date of birth is 01/24/1965.   I have found a way to incorporate my love for history and music as well as my skill as a craftsman to start a small business restoring and manufacturing reproduction band instruments.  I currently do this as a side business out of my home.  I am looking to expand my business and improve my shop and tooling to increase productivity and quality.  I feel that my business is truly unique and keeps with the spirit of this contest as it promotes history, craftsmanship, and the good old "roll up your sleeves" attitude that gave Jack Daniels its reputation.

I play in a reputable civil war brass band in Huntsville, Alabama and restore and maintain all of our horns.  There are only a few people in the world who currently restore and reproduce to the level that I offer.

Thank you for your consideration,

Bill Deiss

Question 3 years ago on Introduction

Bill, my name is Rob and I inherited a couple of instruments from my father, a flute and something somewhat reminiscent of a recorder. I don't know how old they are but I suspect they date back to the 1920's or earlier and were originally purchased in the Netherlands. Would you have an interest in restoring one or both?

I am looking for parts… the #2 valve from a 1918 CG Conn Alto horn , and the first tuning slide in the lead pipe . I can build the slide, may be the valve if I can find the engineering drawing of it. Would rather buy a used valve.
