Introduction: Virtual Reality Minecraft 1.8 With Google Cardboard

Welcome to my first instructable. I have been a member of this site for a very long time now and have been wanting to start posting for a wile but never knew where i should start. After looking at my recurring email from here i saw the minecraft contests and thought what better way than to start here with the VR i have been planning to set up any way.

For the google cardboard set up read it all, for oculus rift skip to step 2.

Thanks for stopping by and reading.

Items needed Google Cardboard (Or Oculus Rift)

Computer and files (mentioned later)

Smart phone

Minecraft

Step 1: Step 1: the Easy Part Screen Sharing

This can be done with your favorite smart phone to windows remote screen.

I chose to use splashtop, Its the best i have tried so far.

fist download it for windows/mac/linux (I did Windows so can not help for other OS).

http://www.splashtop.com/downloads

the download for your phone can also be found here or in the app store. (I am using android in this instructable)

after downloaded create and account and test it.

Also this is a good time to put together your google cardboard. I had already put mine together so that is not part of this instructable.

Step 2: Step 2: Simple Minecraft Preparation (Oculus Rift Step)

For this step you need to download mincrift found at the link below

straight to forum
straight to download

For those with Oculus I urge you to go to the forums and follow the more detail and oculus catered instructions.

The forum has a link for older versions of mincraft.

After downloading make sure that you have run minecraft 1.8.1 at least once before running the downloaded .exe

Run the .exe just downloaded (on Windows 8.1)

Press ok on the screen, shown in the picture with same settings shown.

After installing the .exe open up the minecraft launcher.

Make sure that what is circled in red in the second picture reads minecrift-1.8.1-xxxxxxx or is similar to the pic.

If not press edit profile and select release minecrift-1.8.1-xxxxxxx as shown in pic 3. (this is where you will change it back when you decide to play normal just select the version you would like to play.)

If all good press play.

Step 3: Step 3: Editing Setting to Work With Google Cardboard

[Play Video]

The video shows how to set the settings and shows it working.

I suggest editing the setting with out your head set on.

Here are the steps using the pictures. You will most likely need to just try and follow were my cursor is and where the buttons in minecraft are highlighted because for the first few steps it will be impossible to read what the options say.

This is shown in game but can be done at title screen.

Pic 1 press exc on the keyboard and go to options.

Pic 2 press VR settings

Pic 3 go to HUD settings

Pic 4 slide the HUD size slider all the way up to 2.50 or to the position you prefer press done

At this point you should be able to make out what the options say.

Pic 5 go to move/aim control

Pic 6 turn on pitch control (this allows you to look up and down with the mouse)

Final step press done till your back in the game and than connect you phone to your pc using the remote connection app and program we installed in step 1

Step 4: Step 4: ENJOY

Enjoy playing minecraft using your google card board.
