Introduction: Vivaro Trafic NV300 Talento Door Lock Shield Kit

The problem

It is very common for thieves to attempt break-ins on these vans by drilling a hole through the rear door to access the internal mechanisms of the lock and open the door, thus being able to take whatever is stored in the back of the van. If your van has been broken into, the usual resolution is to replace the whole door, which is very expensive and can be difficult to source.

You may even need to spray the door to match your van. If you are looking for a deterrent, a common solution is an alarm system. These are also expensive and may not deter a thief- by the time the alarm goes off they might already be in the van and stealing your tools!

Symptoms of fault

If you have already had a break-in then it is likely you will have a hole drilled in the rear door of your vehicle.

Our solution

Rather than replace your door or install an expensive alarm system, install the X8R Door Lock Shield Kit. This comprehensive kit will deter thieves from breaking into your vehicle by adding an extra layer of protection to your door. Our kit is easy to fit and can be done within an hour. It also comes with a 19mm holesaw to drill into your door, so you don’t have to buy an entire holesaw kit. Our shield is made from anti-cut & drill 2.5mm stainless steel, which is over twice the thickness of the skin of the OEM doors. The shield also comes with a closed cell foam gasket which sits flush between the door & the shield, creating a water-tight protective barrier to prevent rust and corrosion.

You will receive

1 x Stainless steel exterior protective shield

1 x closed cell foam gasket

8 x washers

8 x Nyloc nuts

1 x grease pot

1 x 19mm holesaw

3 x rubber grommets

Step 1: Remove Door Handle

The first step is to remove the interior door handle, do so by removing the screw in the centre of the door handle and gently pulling it off the lever mechanism.

Step 2: Remove Interior Trim Panels

Using two trim removal tools, pull the interior trim away from the door. There are 10 clips that hold on the trim, here is a photo showing where they are. Do this gently starting from the top left corner. Pull away the trim.

Step 3: Place Template on Door

Next take your template and line it up on the exterior of the door. Apply several small blobs of grease to the back of the template and press it onto the door. We use grease rather than tape so the location of the template can be manipulated.

Step 4: Mark Drill Holes & Mask Up

Take a punch and press into the centre of the cross section of all the drill holes on the template.

Lift off the template and mark the punch marks with a marker pen.

Use masking tape to cover the marked locations and go over with the punch one more time. The masking tape is to stop the drill moving around and damaging the door.

Step 5: Start Drilling

Take a drill with a 2mm drill bit and drill into all of the marked locations. The three holes on the outermost edge of the door should go through two skins of the door, the exterior and interior skin of the door.

Step 6: Increase the Drill Bit Size

Increase the drill bit size by 1mm at a time and go over all of the holes until they are 6mm in diameter.

Apply the foam gasket over the top of the shield and line up the shield over the holes to ensure it fits, if it does not then you can open up the holes to a maximum of 8mm.

Remove the masking tape.

Step 7: Holesaw the Interior Skin

Take the 19mm holesaw and drill it into these three holes – ONLY drill the interior skin and do not go through to the exterior skin. For the centre hole, remove the middle door latch screw using a T40 Torx Screwdriver. Replace it once the centre hole has been drilled.

Step 8: Rust Protect the Drilled Holes

Take a paint pen or touch-up kit and go over all of the drilled holes with the paint, this will prevent rust. Ensure to go over the hole that thieves had made should your vehicle have previously been broken into. Do this for the exterior and interior skin.

Take good quality Waxoyl and spray over the interior door holes (where the holesaw has been used). This will add another layer of protection against rust.

Step 9: Install the Door Shield, Washers & Nuts

Press in the door shield and install all the washers over the studs. Take a 10mm socket and dip it in a small amount of grease, then install the Nyloc nuts, the grease will stop the nut from falling out of the socket.

For the nuts that go on the internal skin, these will be hard to reach there are only two you will be able to install with a socket. Apply the rest by hand.

Using a 10mm spanner to tighten the ones on the internals of the door.

Be careful not to overtighten any of the nuts. The door should sit flush with the gasket. If the nuts are overtightened, the studs may snap.

Fit the plugs over the holesaw holes.
