Intro: Watermelon Drink Dispenser/Keg

*Thank you all for your votes. I won a apron and a shirt from this Instructable.

A fun drink dispenser for summer partys and get togethers The Watermelon Keg! Make it fancy with carvings or keep it simple, guaranteed to be a hit.

STEP 1: Collect Tools

You will need:

• 1 Watermelon
• Dremel Tool
• Spigot (got mine from mrbeer.com)
• Knife
• Stencel of any design you want on your melon
• Tape
• Lemon Juice
• Spoon
• Large Bowl

STEP 2: Transfer Design and Carve

Center up your stencil and tape it in place. Take a knife and start making little pokes along the design to transfer it to the melon. Once your transfer is done, use your Dremel to carve out the pattern. It's easier if you choose one side of the line and stick to it till the end of that line. Then back track and take out the larger parts of the lines.

When you finish using the Dremel take your knife and at an angle go over the edges to smooth it out and clear out the big chunks. When done with the knife pour some lemon juice over your design it will aid in preserving it and wash out the small bits.

STEP 3: Level It

Turn the melon on its side and carefully slice the bottom till it's a smooth flat surface that can sit level on a counter. Take care not to take off so much that you see pink (like I did :( )you should only be cutting off rind otherwise you risk leakage from the bottom.

*or bypass this step if you have something to stand the melon in.

STEP 4: Remove Top

Slice a lid off the top of the melon. Cut at an angle so that you can put the lid back.

STEP 5: Hollow It Out

Have a bowl ready and start spooning out the meat. You want to scrape down to the rind good where you will be placing the spigot.

STEP 6: Place Spigot

Find where on the melon you want your spigot and roughly mark out the size of the hole. Use your Dremel to carve it out, take breaks to check the size to your spigot. Once it's the right size twist in your spigot. My melon had a pretty thick rind so I didn't need the bolt for the back of the spigot.

STEP 7: Make Some Drinks!!! Drink It Up!!

Watermelon drink:

• 1 quart watermelon juice
• 1 cup lemon juice
• 1/2 cup sugar
*alcohol to your taste /wink

Mix the lemon juice and sugar till sugar is dissolved. Pour everything into watermelon keg and enjoy.

I made this for a bridal shower this past weekend. Not only was it extremely easy to make, it was a huge hit!!! It was an alcohol free shower but I just blended the watermelon and poured it back in the 'keg'. Thank you soo much for this instructable, I will definitely be making this again and again!

slight modification in the pour system but still good. I also put fresh pineapple in it for a nice flavor profile

Ye gods and little kittens...

This is brilliant!

Sis is sure getting a surprise for her birthday!!!

What a wonderful idea! I was in catering for 20 years and this never crossed my mind.

Congratulations on being finalist! Great entry! I wish you the best.

Thank you, I appreciate that :).

Probably the only time it's more desirable to have a store bought watermelon vs something from a farmer's market or fruit truck - store bought watermelons have thicker rinds!

Great design! Very creative.

this is a good summer ible for kids party. welldone

For a kid's party, you might want to use vodka instead of rum.

cool idea. one thing you didnt mention that i think would help is refrigerating the melon first so it cools your drinks without so much ice. maybe even chill the drinks before you put them in the melon to make the chill last even longer.

This is such a neat idea, thanks for sharing it!

I liked steps five and six the most. Delicious!
