Step 1: Wash Your Hands, Gather and Prepare Supplies.

  1. Tenderize the beef by kneading and pounding it with your hands for 20-30 seconds.
  2. Marinate the beef in a teriyaki sauce by placing the beef into a bowl or plastic bag and pouring in ¼ cup of teriyaki sauce. Try to marinate the meat in the fridge for at least 24 hours.

Step 2: Prepare the Vegetables.

  1. Rinse vegetables under faucet.
  2. Dice the onion.
  3. Chop off broccoli heads OR cook frozen broccoli according to instructions on packaging.
  4. Mince garlic.
  5. Additional (optional) vegetables for a more traditional flavor:
    1. Slice the red ginger into thin strips.
    2. Boil the soy beans in salt water.
    3. Dice carrots

Step 3: Sautee Onions and Garlic

  1. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
  2. Add oil, onions, and garlic to the pan and cook until the onions are translucent (5-7 minutes).
  3. Remove onions and garlic from the pan when finished, place on cutting board.

Step 4: Prepare and Cook Rice:

  1. Rinse the rice in cold water.
  2. Drain the excess water. Some water can remain, but most should be removed by draining the pot.
  3. Bring 1 cup of water to boil in a medium-sized non-stick pot and add the rice.
  4. Bring the pot to a simmer and cover with a lid
  5. Reduce heat to low and let rest for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Lift the lid to see if the rice is done.
  7. If done, turn off heat and leave lid in place until ready to serve. If water is still in the pot, replace the lid and keep heat at low until rice is finished

Step 5: Prepare the Meat

  1. Heat pan to medium-high.
  2. Pat dry the marinated beef.
  3. Slice beef into one-inch cubes.
  4. Add pinch of salt and pepper.
  5. Add a light dusting of flour or cornstarch to the surface of the beef.

Step 6: Stir Fry Everything

  1. Add the butter and cubed beef to the pan and stir fry for approximately 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and add in the following ingredients:
    1. Broccoli
    2. Onion
    3. Sesame seeds
    4. Remaining teriyaki sauce (¼ cup)
    5. Carrots (optional)
    6. Corn (optional)
    7. Green onion (optional)
  3. Stir fry everything for 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly, until vegetables lightly browned and tender.

Step 7: Enjoy!

  1. Divide the rice into two bowls.
  2. Add the stir-fried beef and vegetables to rice.
  3. Add in additional (optional) ingredients like:
    1. Red ginger
    2. Cashews
    3. Soy beans
    4. Wasabi
  4. Enjoy!
