Introduction: Wheelchair Side Bag for Efrat

A wheelchair side bag designed for storage and organization frequently used Efrat’s personal belongings.

Step 1: MEASUREMENTS

First, you need to take measurements of the wheelchair: length, width and height of the armrest.

Check the distance between the armrest and the wheel.

Take some measurements of the relevant personal belongings: tablet, phone, portable charger.

Step 2: CUT FABRIC BY SIZE

LINING (FRONT) 37X24cm

LINING (BACK) 37X41cm

POCKET (BACK) 32X19cm

POCKET (FRONT) 27X19cm

LINING (STIFFENING) 91X17cm

OUTER (FRONT) 37X24cm

OUTER (BACK) 37X41cm

OUTER (STIFFENING) 91X17cm

Step 3: SEW POCKETS

Take the pieces of fabric named POCKET (BACK) + POCKET (FRONT) and hem the sides with a seam allowance. (see blue line)

Step 4: SEW POCKETS TO LINING

Place the pockets on the piece of fabric named:

LINING (FRONT)

LINING (BACK)

The wrong side of the pocket (the side with the folded over fabric) should be facing down. Pin the pockets in place and sew them.

Note: the pockets should be laid flat.

Step 5: SEW STRIPS TO CLIPS

Take the straps and thread each one into the clips and fold down as in the pictures.

Note: Sew so that the rest of the strap is at the back. (see materials list)

Step 6: SEW STRAPS TO OUTER (BACK AND FRONT)

Place the straps on the part named OUTER (BACK AND FRONT)  as in the picture and sew, follow the blue lines.

Step 7: SEW FRONT PARTS (OUTER AND LINING)

Take the two pieces of fabric named FRONT (OUTER AND LINING) , Line up the edges and trim any excess fabric off. Pin and sew around the perimeter with a 1cm seam allowance leaving a 10cm gap unsewn at the bottom.

Step 8: SEW BACK PARTS (OUTER AND LINING)

Take the two pieces of fabric named BACK (OUTER AND LINING) , Line up the edges and trim any excess fabric off. Pin and sew around the perimeter with a 1cm seam allowance leaving a 10cm gap unsewn at the bottom.

Step 9: Turning It Right-side Out

Cut the corners of the fabric (without hitting the seam). Now reach through the 10cm hole and turn the fabric inside out.

Sew 10cm hole closed.

Step 10: STIFFENING

Take the two pieces of fabric named STIFFENING (OUTER and LINNING) and sew them together when the spong is leying between the two layers.

Step 11: ASSEMBLY

Take the front and the back parts that you made, make sure that the pockets are facing up! and sew each of them all the way together with the edge of the strip named STIFFENING.

Step 12: Turning It Right-side Out

Turn the bag inside out.

Step 13: Adding the Straps

Add the straps (see purple circles). DONE!
