Introduction: White Glue Pumpkin Ornament
My children enjoy building all the cool things they discover on Instructables - and wanted to create one for their own. My youngest son (Wesley) is 8, and this is a project he wanted to show everyone how to build. What is it? We call it a White Glue Ornament. Have fun!
Step 1: Gather Supplies.
- Wax paper
- Sharpie
- White glue
- Food coloring
Step 2: Draw Out Design.
- Using a sharpie (dark colors tend to work best) - draw out your shape.
- Intricate designs are difficult to cut out for little hands - so if creating with a child, help them "keep it simple!"
This project is being done by my 8 year old son - Wesley.
Step 3: Fill Shape With White Glue.
- White glue is easy to put down - simply follow the lines.
- Once you have your outline covered, add more glue in-between the lines.
- Use a brush to spread the glue so inside the shape is completely covered with glue.
Step 4: Add Color.
- Add drops of food coloring to the wet glue for the color you are after. Wes used yellow food coloring on the body of the pumpkin.
- Use the paint brush to swirl the color and "mix" with the glue for an even consistency.
- Wes also added drops of green food coloring to the stem.
Be sure and thoroughly wash out the brush... or it will be no good for future projects!
Step 5: Let Dry...
The hardest part for children (and adults) - is waiting.
- Wes started this project mid-day. It was completely dry by 7 the next morning. Because the glue goes on pretty thick, expect at least 12-hours for it to be completely dry.
- Once it is dry - use scissors or X-acto blade to cut out.
