Introduction: WhiteScanner3D Slideshow

WhiteScanner is a basic 3D scanner, I got the inspiration from MilkscannerMilkscanner. But since I like to do thing from scratch, I created the software myself. the software will be published here, when I feel it is bugfree enough.

what you need:
1. The whitescanner software
2. A webcam/other camera (I used a cheap 10$ webcam)
3. A white 2l plastic bucket
4. Milk / other white fluid (amount depends on the size of the object you want to scan)
5. Something to mount the camera on (I used a chair)
5. Glue (Or something else to use for attatching the camera to the chair)

Mount the camera to something (I glued it to the underside of a chair), right above the bucket, it is important that only the inside of the bucket is visible in the camera view. Then put the object you wants to scan in the bucket. Pour some milk into the bucket.

Start the Whitescanner application.

first: select the output folder
2. Select the device (the camera)
3 .press capture to take a test image
4. use the trackbar to adjust the brightness treshold (press capture after the adjustment to see the changes).
5. when you are happy with the brightness treshold, you can start the scan.
6. pour some milk into the bucket.
7.click the capture button and then the save scan button
8. repeat step 6 and 7 until the object is totaly covered in milk

When the scan is finished, click the "Open DisGen" button in the main window.

In the DisGen window click the "Open Img Folder", and brows to the folder you selected as the output folder. Then click on the "Generate" button to render the depth image, when the render is finished, click the "Save" button to save the depth image, save it in a folder of your choise.

When you have saved the depth image. open windows commander (start->run->"cmd"->enter).
in the cmd window go to the folder whit the whiteScanner software, there you should find a file named
"ren3d.exe" that application take one parameter, the path to the depth image.
an example "ren3d.exe c:\depth.png" then press enter and see the result. use the mouse to rotate (left mouse button), move (right mouse button) and zoom (scroll wheel) adn F4 is lighting on/off. the Images belove is the result of my first scan. as you can see the result isn't that good, thats becouse of the camera, lighting condition, I poured to much milk at once for each capture. and the WhiteScanner needs to have a algorithm that smooths the transition between each "scan layer" and some noise reduction.
