Introduction: Windowsill Lithophane

About: I am a middle schooler who enjoys making things, especially gadgets and anything that has to do with aquariums. I have had a side hobby of photography for a few years now and use that skill with my other hobby…

This is a simple project to add a splash of art to any window.

Supplies

A few pieces of paper

Glue

Scissors

Pencil

Eraser

Step 1: Sketch Your Design

Come up with a design, and lightly sketch it on a piece of paper. You can also print out a picture, but I prefer to make mine from scratch.

Step 2: Cut It Out

Next, cut out your design, taking care to get a clean edge. Try to cut out as many pencil lines as possible, but if not, we will handle those in the next step.

Step 3: Erase Remaining Pencil Lines

With your eraser, carefully erase the leftover pencil lines from your sketch. Don't rip the page though.

Step 4: Glue the Papers Together

Last, all you have to do is take a second piece of paper and glue it to the front of the first. Make sure that there is an even line of glue as you will see it in the light.

Step 5: Hang It Up and Enjoy

Now that you have a lithophane, all that's left to do is hang it up somewhere bright like a window. This method can be easily adapted for more complicated multi-layer lithophanes, but I am keeping it simple. Good luck, and happy lithophane making!
