Wire Fishing Hook
Intro: Wire Fishing Hook
In this instructable I’ll show you how to make a wire fishing hook. This is good for ponds that don’t allow hooks with barbs (stupid I know).
STEP 1: Gather Supplies
STEP 2: Cut the Wire
STEP 3: Make a Loop
STEP 4: Bend It
STEP 5: Cut It
Cut the end into a a point. The steeper the angle the better.
STEP 6: Temper It WARNING DO NOT DO THIS WITH GALVANIZED STEEL!
Hold the hook to a flame (lighter, candle, campfire, alcohol stove etc) until it is glowing hot. Then immediately put it in water. This makes it less bendy and more brittle so you have to weigh your options. Sorry no pics yet.
STEP 7: You’re Done!
You’re done!

A few issues. If you really want to catch fish and keep them on the hook, you have to make some sort of barb or never let even an inch of slack line. Second, you can use a fie or sand paper to really sharpen the hook. I actually do that to store purchased hooks all the time to make them really sharp. Third, if you really want the hook to not bend with a big fish on, heat the hook up to glowing red and quench it in water (or oil). That tempers it but also can make it brittle so you have to weight the options.
