Introduction: Wooden Cutting Box and Clamp

Cutting pipe can be difficult as it can roll around. Sure you could secure the pipe in a engineering vice (if you had one) but this can mark the pipe with it's metal jaws.

This tutorial shows you how to make a wooden cutting box and clamp which will allow you to cut pipe or other stuff. It is inexpensive to make. I built it from a length of wood I found discarded (i.e. made it for free).

Supplies

Length of Wood

PVA Glue

2 wooden door wedges

Step 1: Cut and Glue

  • Cut 3 lengths of timber 35 Centimetres long.
  • Glue together with PVA glue to make a cutting box. Have one edge slightly lower than the cross member. This is so it can catch on the work bench when it is being used.
  • Hold the pieces together with removable tape.

Step 2: Vice

  • Make a cut in the cutting box at 90 degrees - this will be used to guild the saw when it is in use.

Step 3: Operation

  • Place the pipe in the cutting box.
  • Clamp in place with the triangular door stops moving against each other, use a spacer if required.
  • Cut the pipe.
  • It will also cut wooden dowelling.
