Wooden Bracelet

Intro: Wooden Bracelet

I'm going to show you how to make a wooden bracelet!  The process is really easy, but I'll walk you through the steps.

STEP 1: Gather Your Materials

For this, I used (as you can see on my favorite tool, a caliper) that I used 3mm MDF.

The two magnets pictured were originally supposed to be a clasp, but that didn't end up working out.  Ignore them.  Or use them to make LED throwies!

(Not valid in the Boston metropolitan area)

STEP 2: Measure Your Wrist

Measure your wrist.  The file I'm providing assumes your wrist is 9.5 inches around (YEESH!).  Your's probably isn't.  I am the size of a small bear, and have bear-sized wrists.

To do this, I measured a bracelet that I already had.

STEP 3: Load the File Into the Laser

This one is super easy.  See the attached DXF.

My speed/power settings were:

Speed: 20mm/s
Power: 48watts

You may have to edit the DXF to make a size that fits your wrist.  This should be self-explanatory, but if it isn't: remove some of the vertical lines, shrink the boxy-bit, and move the circle that was at the end of the boxy-bit in the same direction you shrunk it.

STEP 4: Add a Clasp

For my clasp, I used some black string, and some elongated beads.  I think this works best, but the holes allow you to be pretty creative with it.

Enjoy!

Very nice! I was curious what kind of wood that you used, and how strong it is, though. Have you worn it a lot? I would be afraid it would crack.... (You should remake this a little and enter it into the laser contest. you could redo the file into a girl size.) :) Good idea!
I've been wearing it for the last couple of days without any problems... A bit of it cracked near the clasp, but I've been intentionally rough on it to try and stress it into cracking.

So far so good!

(Which laser contest?)
Cool!
Look on the contest page. It just opened, I think.

Oh, nice! I'd feel bad entering that, though, since we already have a laser.

(Also I'm sure the other entries will be /quite/ a lot cooler than my silly bracelet, haha)
