Introduction: Worlds First Remote Control Human Through the Internet

About: My whole life I have thought of ways to make things that you can only go out and buy, follow me and I will teach you how to make all sorts of things. Praise carbon!

I have been recently studying this thing called Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) which is basically using electricity to cause muscles to move. After learning about this I decided to incorporate this into my Hackster I.O. project by building a remote control human. To summarize my project, I will be using an EMS device connected to an Arduino, connected to my computer through Wi-Fi to control the person who is wearing the EMS device remotely. Step 1: What Is EMS?

EMS also known as Electrical Muscle Stimulation is the process of using electricity contract muscles. It was first discovered by Luigi Galvani by attaching electrodes to the legs of dead frogs. During this time many people were working with EMS which helped to inspire the author Mary Shelly to wright the novel Frankenstein. In recent years it has gained popularity because of potential use as a strength training tool.

Step 2: Required Items

To do this project you will need the following items:



Step 3: Here's the Circuit!

The circuit is simple, it's basically two NPN transistors where the base pins are connected to pins 2 and 3 on the Arduino MKR 1000. The collectors are connected to the buttons on the EMS device and the emitters are connected to ground.

Step 4: Building the Circuit

Building the circuit is also very simple. Start by connecting the Female header pins to your MKR 1000 and trim them so all the pins are taken. Next solder the Female header pins to the Proto Board and solder the NPN transistors in the spots where the bases can connect to pins 2 and 3 on the Arduino. Then solder two wires to the collector pins and solder a wire connecting the two emitter pins to ground.

Step 5: How to Control the Board

To control the MKR 1000 I used the Windows Arduino Remote App which allows you to control the Arduino through Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth, or USB.

Step 6: Connecting to the EMS Device

Next I need connected the circuit to the EMS device by first taking apart the EMS device where I then used a multimeter to find the positive leads on it. There were some holes that I could easily solder wires to, to connect the board to the circuit.

Step 7: Finish

Once everything is done you can hook everything up and test it to see if it works. The positioning of the EMS device may be tricky so you will need to play around with its positioning to cause it to start contracting you muscles. Other then that you're done!
