Introduction: Altoids Tin Solar Oven

About: I'm not really sure why I make half the things I make. The rest are just simple crafts. I make practical things and fun things.
Great for camping and works fine. Comment if you have problems.
You can call it the mint-o-heat. And, it fits right in your pocket.

Step 1: Materials

You will need an altoids tin, some tinfoil, some scissors, glue, two toothpicks, and a Sharpie. (color doesnt matter as long as its visible on tin foil.

Step 2: Tinfoil Prep

Get a tinfoil dispenser and dispense a 6 inch piece of foil.
Get your tin ready.

Step 3: Making the Peices

Get your tin. Note that the lid is slightly thicker than the bottom. Trace the top and bottom on the foil with the sharpie.

Step 4: Cut the Pieces Out

! Children have an adult with you for this step !

Cut along the rectangles.

Step 5: Glue

Glue the rectangles inside the tin.

Step 6: Holding It Open

Get your toothpicks and glue them, but only on the top. If you glue on the bottom you could never be able to close your solar oven.

Step 7: Use

let it dry and take it out on a nice sunny day. Let it sit in the sun for 20 minutes and consider it preheating. Then cook away!

Step 8: How It Works

The energy from the sun heats the pad of foil on the bottom, but it's not yet hot enough. The sun then heats the other pad and goes behind it, travels through the tin, and heats the bottom pad, making it hot enough for cooking. Enjoy B-)
