Introduction: Aquarium Background
make your own 3d aquarium background
Step 1: The Start
I used the foam from inside a steel door. Use the cutouts from the steel door and peel off the steel skin. One you have just the foam cut to size to fit in your tank.
Step 2: Carving
Draw out your design with a marker. I used a sharp kitchen knife to carve out the diffrent layers.
Step 3: Adding Color
I used latex based drylock and cement color additives. you can get both at at your local home Depot. I put on two coats as a base and two coats of color. I let them dry a couple of days before adding to the tank.
Step 4: Insert
I decided to run all my piping behind the insert. I carved out slots for the piping. For the intake I drilled a hole through the insert. For the return I ran a slot all the way down the other side of the insert. the return runs into to undergravel jets. Coat the back with 100% silicone and stick it to the back of your tank. Use leftover foam or whatever you can find to brace it up for 24hrs
Step 5: Fill
Once everything is all dry add your gravel, water and anything else you want and begin your fishless Cycle
