Introduction: Archery Stuff

I am 14 years old and I'm in a boy scout troop. Every two years we go to a week long camp and one of the free time activities is archery. I own a compound bow and got into archery when I was 10. This is my first instuctable

There are three main types of archery bows. Starting from left to right there is a longbow wich is the most primitive and less powerful of the three bows. In the center is the recurve bow wich has a curve to it that gives it more power and accuracy. On the left is the compound bow wich is the most powerful and accurate of the three bows. The compound bow is used for hunting more than the other bows because it uses a special pulley system that allows you to pull back only half of the draw weight." Whats draw weight?" You might ask? Draw weight is how much weight you are pulling back when you are pulling back the string on the bow.

How to attach your arrow to the bow. In the second picture it shows the parts of an arrow and parts of a bow. First of all the arrow has fletchings not feathers! The arrow fletchings are made to be in a certain postion that when you attach it to your bow and shoot the fletchings will not get ripped off. when you attach the arrow two fletching should face inward toward the bow and one will face outward, horizontally. The bow will have a special rest to place the arrow and depending what bow you have and if you are hunting or shooting targets arrow rests will be different.

One last thing, check your local laws if you want to shoot in your back yard and also see if there are any local shooting ranges that have an archery range.
I hope I helped you and happy shooting!
