Braid Edge Fleece Blanket

About: I'm just a regular mom from North Jersey. I love all things crafty, cooky or buildy!

This easy braid edge fleece blanket is cuddly and soft without the hard knots of no sew fleece blankets. This project is ideal for beginning sewers.

Step 1: Measure and Cut a 3" X 3" Square of Fabric From Each Corner

For this project you will need:

2-3 yards of fleece

Sewing Machine - with zigzag stitch

Step 2: Fold and Sew the Folded Edge

Fold the blanket over 2.5"-3". Using a zigzag stitch, stitch all the way around the blanket.

Step 3: Cut Slits

Cut 1.5" wide slits all the way around the blanket.

Step 4: Braid the Edge

Starting at a corner, grab one of the cut loops. Pull the next loop through the first loop.

Step 5: Pull the Next Loop Through the First Loop.

Working 1 loop at a time, pull the next loop through the loop you're holding.

Step 6: Work All the Way Around the Blanket

Loop by loop, work your way around the blanket.

Step 7: Keep Braiding Until All 4 Edges Are Done.

Hand or machine sew the last loop to the blanket.

I have the perfect fabric in my basement right now. Thanks.

Nice! Hmmm, looks like I could make a custom size for my camper beds. And you don't have to use 2 layers of fleece, which I think is too warm to use as either a throw or bed blanket. Thanks for the very clear and useful project!

That would hold a lot better than the tie blankets, we'll have to try it next time we make some :)
