Introduction: Burnt Wood Address Sign

About: Hi. I am a woodworker and an avid outdoorsman. I love to spend time in the shop when not in school and like to create whatever comes to mind.

Hello. In this Instructable I am going to show you how to make a Burned wood Address sign. You can use any kind of wood you like, but in this Instructable I chose to use a piece of driftwood because it was readily available. Remember to always use proper safety precautions such as safety goggles and gloves.

Material List:

  • Butane Torch ($35 from home depot)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Safety goggles
  • Blank piece of wood

Step 1: Cut Out Your Numbers

For this step I used Microsoft Word to print out my letters. I then cut them out with some scissors and laid them out accordingly.

Step 2: Trace Your Numbers Onto Your Wood

For this step, carefully trace your numbers onto your wood with a sharpie or a pen.

Step 3: Use the Aluminum Foil to Help You Make the Edges of the Burn

As shown in the picture, align the aluminum foil with the line you traced on the wood to get a more defined line with the torch. Make sure to hold the aluminum foil where it is not hot because it can heat up and burn you (learned from experience).

Step 4: Finished Product

You can use any type of sign post you want, but I used another piece of driftwood found from the same beach as the sign. You can varnish your piece of wood if you like but I chose not to because I wanted to keep the wood as authentic as possible. Thanks for viewing this instructable and happy burning!
