In order to create my colour changing heated 3 pcs men suit for one of my character, I decided to document through pictures and a small movie montage, my process. I have to keep the result of my costume secret since I have to present it first during the ECA Show 2016 but, I have made a small video montage of the basic process I intend to use to create the costume for my final project. This video shows all the steps quickly and efficiently in order for anyone to reproduce the final result.

Step 1: Material

Step 1: Materials needed
-Fabric and scissors
- Sewing machine
- Thermochromic dye (for the video I used the red dye but for the final result I have used the 31C Thermochromic dye. I have bought my dye from SFCX website here:
- Carbon heated tape (buy it here) www.carbonheater.us
- Wires
- Wire glue
- Container + paintbrush
- Heat shrink wire wrap
- Battery adaptor
- 9V battery (for this test I have used a 9V battery, but for the actual costume I will use several 18650 batteries)
- Blow dryer or iron or lighter

Step 2: Step 2: Cut Fabric

Cut 2 rectangles with your fabric. First rectangle I cut was 12cm x 15cm and the second one was 14cm x 17cm. But you can cut any shape and size you want.

Step 3: Step 3: Paint Your Fabric

Using your Thermochromic dye, put an equal part of dye and binder into your container and mix well. Using a clean paintbrush, paint your fabric. Let it dry completely. Using the blow dryer at maximum heat blow dry your fabric for 2-3 minutes to cure it.

Step 4: Step 4: Prepare Your Carbon Heated Tape

Decide on your pattern. Cut the amount of carbon heated tape and place it onto your second piece of fabric. Cut two small extra pieces of tape to cover your wire, place aside for now. To keep your tape from moving you can pin in to your fabric.

Step 5: Step 5: Sew Your Tape

Using a sewing machine, sew your tape onto your fabric. Make sure it is well sewn and that the tape isn’t moving.

Step 6: Step 6: Preparing Your Wires and Using the Wire Glue

Cut your wire at the length you need. Uncover the fibber. Place the red wire at one end of your tape shape and place the black wire at the other end. Sew them into place. Using the wire glue, dap a generous amount on top of the fibber. Using the two small extra pieces of tape, place on top of the glued parts to cover.

Step 7: Step 7: Sew the Wire in Place

Once the dry, sew on top of the two small pieces to fix wires and tape properly.

Step 8: Tep 8: Use Heat Shrink Wrap to Connect to Your Battery

Choose the right size for your heat shrink wrap. Using scissors, cut the edges of your wire that is sewn to your tape to make them fit in the wrap. Do the same to the wires that are attached to your battery adaptor. Place both red wires into a wrap and using the blow dryer shrink the wrap. Repeat for the black wires.

Step 9: Step 9: Connect the Battery and Watch the Magic

Place your cured and dry Thermochromic piece of fabric on top of your carbon tape template. Connect your 9Volt battery to your adaptor and watch the magic happen. The Thermochromic dye will go from black or red to white when all is connected properly.
