Are household cleaning tasks becoming a headache for you? Seeking out for an automated solution to give you a helping hand in everyday cleaning of floor and desks? Then the solution is an automated robot, but any such robots don’t come cheap and carry hefty price that is out of the reach of most of the people. This is when embarking on a DIY project comes handy as you can build your own automated floor cleaning robot that can not only clean the floor but also any surface that is level, for example a desk. Mark Glickman has come up with the ingenious idea of making an automated floor cleaning robot which runs on the simple principle of thrust. The Floor Cleaning Robot is pretty easy to make and it won’t cost you much as it is made from readily available things for just under $5 only.

The DIY project is quite simple and can be completed in just a few hours depending on your electronics know-how. So, let’s have a look at how you can also make your own Floor Cleaning Robot in a jiffy.

Step 1: Things Required:

First of all you’ll need to get these thing from the local store or electronics shop. You need a cleaning scrub brush, 3V motor from an electric toothbrush, AA battery holder, switch, plasticine or play dough, thick wire, small wheel, wire strippers, hot glue gun and rubber band.

Step 2: Hooking Up the Wires:

Once you have got hold of all the stuff, you need to hook on the two wires onto the battery and motor. You can place a switch in between to make it easy to stop or start the Floor Cleaning Robot. Make sure to hook the negative wire from the battery in case you are using the switch. Wrap the wires around to make it look uncluttered and test the motor for functioning.

Step 3: Attach to the Brush:

Thereafter attach the motor and battery holder to the top of the brush using glue gun or play dough. Here you need to make sure that you attach the rotating wheel in between the motor and the adhesive so that the motor can move in any direction. Attach the rubber band to provide stiffness in movement so that the motor doesn’t move abruptly in any direction.

Step 4: Floor Cleaning Robot:

There you have the floor cleaning robot that can be prepared in just a few hours if you have all the requisite material available. Now test it by turning the switch on and see if it moves in the correct direction without any hassles. You can use it for cleaning your work desk, tables, floor or any other level surface that needs daily cleaning.

Step 5: Safety Measure:

You need to make sure that the robot is not run for a very long duration as it will heat-up the motor excessively. Moreover, as it runs on AA batteries, therefore it will eat-up a lot of battery power, so make sure you use rechargeable batteries for this DIY project.

Step 6: Accessories:

You can attach things like LED or a solar panel unit and attach it to the motor if you want to get extra creative. Do tell us if you have made any interesting DIY of the same nature and share it with our readers.
