Introduction: Dotted Wooden Box With Tree of Life Symbol

In this project i will show you how to make this dotted box with engraved tree of life symbol step by step. .

Supplies

Materials:

  • Plywood 8 and 4 mm
  • Beech dowels 6 and 8 mm
  • Colourless wood oil
  • Silver paint
  • Wood glue
  • Nitro solvent

Tools:

  • Table saw
  • Drill press
  • Handsaw
  • Clamps
  • Speed rotary
  • Sander
  • table router

Step 1: Cut the Boards to Size

The first thing i had to do was cut all of the boards to size.
Dimenssions in my case:

  • 8 mm sides of the box- 2 pieces 247×51mm and another two 137×51mm (at 45 deegres)
  • 4 mm base - 2 pieces 247×137mm (it's best to cut these boards oversized)

Step 2: Dotting

Next thing is to glue holes pattern on sides of the box( attachment ) I used paper glue, next i stippled every point with center punch. After this it was time to drill a lot of holes, using drill press with 6 and 8 mm drill bits.

Step 3: Dowels to the Holes !

It's time to cut a lot of dowels for every hole. I used japan handsaw to cut them to size. Next i insert dowels to the boards using hammer and wood glue . After glue dryes, i cut them with same saw, and sanded everything.

Step 4: Engraving

Now tree of life symbol (attachment). I printed symbol using laser printer, and transfer it to the 4mm plywood using nitro solvent. After this i engraved symbol using speed rotary tool and conical cutter. In next step i used airbrush but if you don't have one, you can use spray paint. After painting it's time for more sanding to remove paint from everewyhere except engraving . I also added a few dowels here.

Step 5: Gluing and Cutting

Afterwards i glued the box using frame clamp and 6 normal clamps . After glue dryes i remove excess plywood using table router with bearing router bit. Next using table saw i cut box to two halves.

Step 6: Finishing

I finished wood with colourless oil, when everything was dry i added piano hinge on the back of the box.

Step 7: Complete

After this, the project was complete! Check out the video to get more of a visual idea of what I did. Feel free to reach out to me if you need help or have any questions. I'am waiting for you opinion. Thanks for reading.
