GLOVEBOX GADGET CHALLENGE - El Beetle Bud Vase Hack

Ya know, the whole thing about New Beetles (and old Beetles, and even the Newer New Beetles) being girl-cars is just silly.

And never-mind that I purchased El Beetle from a girl.

Well, even if these things actually are girl cars, girls are usually pretty cool (the girl who sold me El Beetle is super-duper cool), so I guess I don't really care one way or the other.

Now, having said all that, here is how I re-purposed my blumenvasen to hold something other than flowers.

Step 1: Blumenvasen = a Very Nice Feature

Bud vases (translated from the German: Blumenvasen) have been an integral Beetle accessory since the beginning, and for most of the time after that.

However, I don't think the Newer New Beetles have the bud vases.

Let me take this opportunity to apologize to all the owners of the Newer New Beetles; you probably won't be able to implement this bud vase hack.

Step 2: You Don't Bring Me Flowers... Anymore...

Flowers are nice and all, but there is a time and a place for everything.

And now it's time to move these flowers to some other place.

I think I shall put them in some water, and then set them in the kitchen.

Step 3: Incoming!

And now it's time to transition from the form side of the equation over to the function side.

I need me some functional storage space for important things like pens and pencils and screwdrivers. This storage space should be easily accessible, yet out of the way. This storage space needs to be easily accessed with only one hand... latches, snaps, buttons, lids, etc., simply won't do.

There is really only one solution that fulfills all those requirements, and I have a strong suspicion that it will most certainly work on multiple levels...

Step 4: Presenting the El Beetle Bud Vase Hack

Ta-Daa!

This is the part of the Instructable when many of you are probably thinking, "Now, why didn't I think of that?" I know that is what I usually think when I look at other folks' Instructables.

Or, perhaps you are one of the few who will want to categorize this as a weak Instructable. You may assume that I'm not embracing the whole Instructable ethos. Let me assure you that I set out to try and create a serious Instructable.

Well, I will admit being a little hesitant about making this Instructable. I was certain that if I had this idea about using a bud vase as a pencil holder, many other people must have already had the exact same idea.

Additionally, folks always make nice comments about how I choose to use my blumenvasenvase when they happen to notice.

So, I humbly submit this Instructable for your consideration.

Step 5: ** Addendum for the Formlabs Contest **

What would I do with a Form 1+ 3D printer?

Well, the first (and second) thing I would do would be to print out the 3D scans of the kiddos that were captured earlier this year. Okay, to be honest, the real first (and second) thing I would do would be to follow this Instructable and fix up the holes in each scan before printing them.
