Getting Seeed Stepper Motor Working

As the stepper motor in the SEEED Grove Starter Kit PLus Intel IoT Edition came without a cable for the motor driver board, these pictures show the wiring that worked (for code specifying the stepper shold use pins 2,3,4,5 - NB lots of code uses 8-11. )

None of the example sketches worked, nor the example sketch from the SEEED web site, so I haven't yet got the stepper motor working using stepper functionality and turning both ways.
