Introduction: How to Make a Brake Drum Forge

In this Instructable I am going to show you how to make a brake drum blacksmith forge.

WARNING: Burning galvanized metal may release toxic Zinc Oxide fumes. This project is extremely dangerous and should not be attempted without adult supervision and adequate training. Misuse, or careless use, of the forge could result in serious injury or permanent damage to equipment.

Step 1: Materials

1x 2" Flange
2x 2" Pipe Piece x 150 mm
1x 2" Pipe Piece x 100mm
1x 2" Tee
1x 2" BSPT Combination Nipple
2x 62-65mm 304SS T-Bolt Clamp
1x Brake Drum
1x Hair Dryer
Bolts, nuts and washers

Step 2: Connecting the Pipe

The pipes should be arranged as per the above picture.

Step 3: Connect the Brake Drum

Connect the brake drum using bolts, nuts and washers.

Step 4: How It Works

The forge gets hot because the hair dryer blows air constantly into the fire.

Step 5: Finishing Up

Connect the hair dryer to the side of the forge and then tighten the clamps. You could use either charcoal or if you have coal available you could use that. I made a stand out of some wood but you could make a stand out of cinder blocks if you don't have any wood available.
