Introduction: How to Create an Origami Tulip

Here is instructions on how to make the flower part of the origami tulip.

Step 1:

Use a square piece of paper (preferably origami paper). If only one side is colored, make sure the colored side is facing down.

Step 2:

Fold the square in half so the two color sides match up on the outside to create a rectangle, then unfold.

Step 3:

Fold it the other way so the other two sides match up to create a rectangle, then unfold.

Step 4:

Now fold the lower left corner to the upper right corner to form a triangle, then unfold.

Step 5:

Fold the lower right corner to the upper left corner to form another triangle, then unfold.

Step 6:

Make sure the colored side is facing up. Now bring the left and right creases to the center and it should collapse into a triangle.

Step 7:

Fold the left corner to the top corner.

Step 8:

Then fold the right corner to the top corner.

Step 9:

Turn the figure over and repeat step 7 by folding the bottom corners to the top corner.

Step 10:

This is where it starts getting a little tricky. Fold ONLY the top two layers of the right side to the left.

Step 11:

Turn the figure over. There should be three layers on the right side. Once again, only fold the top layer of the right side over to the left.

Step 12:

The sides with the pockets should be facing down. Fold the top right and left layer corners into the center to create a kite shape.

Step 13:

Flip the figure over and repeat step 12 to form the kite shape by folding the right and left corners to the center.

Step 14:

Now on one side, insert the right flap all the way into the left pocket.

Step 15:

Turn the figure over and repeat step 14 by inserting the right flap all the way into the left flaps pocket. The bottom should have two holes that look like a bow tie.

Step 16:

With both hands bring the side with the two holes up to your mouth and gently blow. This should puff the tulip out.

Step 17:

Turn the tulip to the top and carefully start to peel the petals down a little above half way. You have just created a beautiful tulip bulb.
