Introduction: How to Make an Electric Roller Skate Prototype

Hello! We are Cami and Miranda. We are seventh graders from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. We love to create big amazing ideas and we love to have fun. So in this project, we want to fix a broken shoe by making it look better like making it have electric wheels. The shoes can be used again, this way people can save money and recycle an old pair of shoes. If we throw this shoes there will be a lot of trash and you waste money on nothing. This shoe helps children or adult to have fun and relax. But also, for people that can't walk. They will experience skating. Thanks for reading our website or video! I hope you like our idea!!

Step 1: Get the Materials.

So the first step is to bring this following material

  • A big wood. The type of the wood could be softwood. (Make sure is a long one.)
  • Two big long wires. (one black and the other red.)
  • Bring Robot Wheels that could fit into the Motors.
  • Rotoup 1:48 DC Motor Smart Robot.
  • Restol Glue or Glue that can glue well to woods.
  • Electric tape for wires.
  • Electric Buttons that wires could fit in there.
  • 9V Battery.
  • Metal Wires.
  • Wool.
  • Pliers
  • Clamps.
  • 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 6-1/2 in. Circular Saw.
  • Gear Protection Glasses.
  • A special Red pen for wood.
  • Pro'skit 8PK-033 Heavy Duty Wire Cutting / Stripping / Crimping Plier - Wire Cutter.
  • Model Clay (whatever color.)
  • A label plate design for robots.
  • Gloves.
  • A small wheel
  • Battery terminal.
  • Super Glue.
  • Broken Shoe.

Step 2: Spray the Lower Part of the Shoe.

WARNING: USE ADULT SUPERVISION FOR THIS STEP. (IF YOU ARE ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO HAVE AN ADULT SUPERVISION.)

So you will need to have this material

  • Spray paint
  • Gloves
  • The lower part of the shoe (label plate.)
  • Electric tape.
  • Scissors.
  • Newspaper or something to cover the floor.
  • Something to cover your nose from the spray paint. (respirator.)
  • Labeled plate.
  • Pliers.
  • Wool.
  • Normal tape.
  • Aluminum wires.

Before you start, you will have to go outside. Then, you will put electric tape on tiny holes of the label plate (if available.) After that, put gloves in your hands. The newspaper on the floor. Grab the spray paint. Grab also the label plate. Make sure you shake the spray paint. Cover your nose with a respirator or something. Spray all the label plate parts. Except for one single small hole. In the back and front. after you finish with this process, you will need to have the pliers, wool, the aluminum wires, and the tape. You will need the label plate to dry. If you made a single hole in the label plate you will need to put the wires inside and with the pliers, twist it. Then with the wool make a tie and leave it up in a place so it dries. You could see the video how.

Step 3: Cutting the Wood.

WARNING: USE ADULT SUPERVISION IN THIS STEP. (IF YOU ARE ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO HAVE AN ADULT SUPERVISION.)

So you will need to have this material

  • Wood (15 x 50 cm)
  • Clamps.
  • A special red pencil for tracing the wood.
  • Circle Saw.
  • Gear glasses protection.
  • Metal wood ruler.
  • Rubber band for girls (if you have long hair.)

Continuing this process, you will need to also go outside. With the wood, ruler and the red pencil. Trace 50 cm x 150 cm. There is a picture on the top. If you are a girl or a woman please wear ponytail so your hair cannot be cut. With an adult cut the trace part with the circular saw. Make sure you see the video to know how to do it and also put gear glasses protection so the wood won't get inside your eyes.

Step 4: Taking the Tape Off

You will need to have this material

  • Scissors.
  • The label plate (lower part of the shoe.

After you left the label plate for 2 days drying. Grab the label plate make sure is very dry. If not then leave it for one more day. With some scissors and the label plate, take out the tape very carefully in the back and in the front.

Step 5: Putting the Wheel in the Back.

You will need to have this material

  • The wheel.
  • 4 small screw.
  • 4 small bolts.

So when you have taken the tape you will need to put in the back. The wheel. There will be 4 holes in the back which you will put the wheel, the screws, and bolts all together. You can use your hand to screw it or use some special tool. After you finish all four of them. Make sure it stays right there, that it can't fall. If you do not understand please watch the video.

Step 6: Doing the Electrical Part 1.

WARNING: USE ADULT SUPERVISION IN THIS STEP. (IF YOU ARE ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO HAVE AN ADULT SUPERVISION.) IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT ASK A SPECIALIST TO DO IT.

So you will need to have this material

  • The batteries.
  • 2 red wires and 2 black.
  • Battery terminal.
  • The motors.
  • Motor wheels.
  • Screwdriver.

So first you will need the motors and the motor wheels. You will see that the motor has a tube. And the motor wheels has a hole. Put them both of them together. You will not need glue. After that step, you will need a battery terminal. Once you have it make sure that the wires are being cut properly, but also, you will but the battery terminal very different. You will put the red wires in one of the small little metal holes that are in the motor wheels. The other black is going also in another hole. Make sure it does not fall. Because the next step you're going to put the other two wires on there. Before you do it, you will need a larger wire. Red and black. One of the red and the other black. Is going to go to the motor wheels. Where you put the battery terminal. The red goes with the red. The black goes with the black. Once you did it, with an electrical tape. Put it around it. Put it very tightly or else it will fall. You will see that the long wires are not connected. That is when you will put them in the switch. You will have to use a screw-diver to open the switch and putting the two wires together. Once you open it, the wires have to be inside and be tightly with a screw that is inside the switch. Look at the model. Then when you finish it. Put the battery. Try it out! Now do the other part!

Step 7: Doing the Electric Part 2.

WARNING: USE ADULT SUPERVISION IN THIS STEP. (IF YOU ARE ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO HAVE AN ADULT SUPERVISION.)

So you will need to have this material

  • Label plate.
  • The whole engineering process you did in step 6.
  • Gloves.
  • Super Glue.

WATCH THE VIDEO. In the video will show you how to cut your wires properly. If your wires are cut, you will not need to be cut again.

After doing the first two wheels, motors and etc. Is time to you to paste the motors into the wheels. Before you start use gloves. IMPORTANT: IF YOU GLUE IN YOU HANDS, CALL OR GO TO THE HOSPITAL TO CONSULT A SPECIALIST. Now, with the special glue, put glue beneath the two motors. Then put it on the label plate, in the middle. After that, you will grab the battery place it on the top. Then with a small piece of tape, a put it on top. Make sure it sticks to the plate. Remember, you will change the battery later. So, DO NOT PASTE IT WITH THE SUPER GLUE. Once you put it, make sure the batteries are close to the battery terminal. Put them together. But also, turn off the switch for now.

Step 8: Finish the Process.

WARNING: USE ADULT SUPERVISION IN THIS STEP. (IF YOU ARE ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO HAVE AN ADULT SUPERVISION.) IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT ASK A SPECIALIST TO DO IT.

So you will need to have this material.

  • The shoe.
  • The process you did in step 6 and 7.
  • Clay.
  • Super glue.

You are almost finishing!!! WHOOO! It's now the time to finish the last step. What are you going to do is, grab the clay. You are going to make 4 pieces of clay in the form of a rectangle. Make sure it looks long and very wide. square. Then you will make a circular form with the clay rectangle. Make sure is glue with the plate. Again, use gloves. After you done that. With the clay, paste in the top with the big chunk of wood. If you didn't understand it. Look at the video below all the steps.
