Introduction: How to Make Three Simple Hitches

A hitch is a type of knot that attaches a rope to an object. They can be very useful. I have selected three useful yet easy hitches. I will show you the pedigree cow hitch, the highwayman's hitch and the pile hitch.

Step 1: The Pile Hitch - Step 1

fold your string in half.

Please note that you must be able to loop your string over the end of your thing you want to attach your string to.

Step 2: The Pile Hitch - Step Two

Place whatever you want to attach your string to on top of your string

Step 3: The Pile Hitch - Step Three

fold the sting away from the end it is closest to. Make sure it goes over the thing you want to attach to.

Step 4: The Pile Hitch - Step Four

fold underneath your string.

Step 5: The Pile Hitch - Step Five

loop your string over the end of whatever you are attaching your string to.

Step 6: Pile Hitch - Step Six

tighten your knot by pulling on the loose ends

Step 7: The Pedigree Cow Hitch - Step One

fold your string in half

Step 8: The Pedigree Cow Hitch - Step Two

Place your item on top like you did with the pile hitch

Step 9: The Pedigree Cow Hitch - Step Three

pull your loose ends through your loop

Step 10: The Pedigree Cow Hitch - Step Four

tighten your knot by pulling the loose ends

Step 11: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step One

fold your string in half

Step 12: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Two

Step 13: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Three

Step 14: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Four

place your mini loop through the big loop.

Step 15: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Five

make a mini loop in the other loose end. I will call this "end two"

Step 16: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Six

pull your mini loop through the loop you made with end one

Step 17: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Seven

pull end one to tighten it

Step 18: The Highwayman's Hitch - Step Eight

pull end two to loosen/untie the knot
